This past Monday, our Civic Youth Program continued with its third session, a workshop on open data. The students learned to use GeoHub and the City’s Open Data Portals to map their neighborhoods using different data sets, including demographic data. Storymaps included the Clean Streets Index and a look at Homelessness in LA. Some students expressed interest in utilizing these skills to assist their NCs with targeted outreach for elections, so be on the lookout for new faces at your board meetings! Civic Youth continues this upcoming Mondaywith an outreach and community organizing workshop.

Now in its third year, the Civic Youth Leadership Academy is a summer program hosted by the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment to engage and empower youth in local government. The six-session course will run through August of this year. Check out www.empowerla.org/civicyouth to learn more and reach out to civicyouth@empowerla.org with any questions.
