This past Friday, 9/14, one of our Civic Youth Alumni, Philippe Chen (’17) organized and executed a tree planting event in partnership with the Pico Union Neighborhood Council (PUNC), the Koreatown Youth  + Community Center (KYCC), Council District 1, and Loyola High School.

30 student attendees helped to plant 20 trees, with KYCC providing watering instructions to all residents in the community.

The event was a huge success, and a great example of how our Civic Youth students take their advocacy and outreach skills directly back into their neighborhoods to do good work.

If you’d like to hear from Philippe and other students directly on increasing youth participation in Neighborhood Councils, please join us at the Congress of Neighborhoods tomorrow for the 4th session: Engaging Youth Leaders. We hope to see you there!
