As President of the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council I will make it a top priority to empower each and every Eagle Rocker. A fully transparent and outreaching Council is my goal. I will be a True Representative of the People of Eagle Rock. And the only way to Represent what the People want is to actually know what the People want. I aim to be your Public Servant.

I want to be the next ERNC president. I am an attorney and have 2 years teaching high school in LAUSD. 3 years of working on the NC board and work that I have done with other NC coalitions and related service has added to my qualifications.

I want to build alliances with other NC that would strengthen our voice in city government and to enhance communication between Eagle Rock and City Hall officials.

Peter Hilton

As a 24 year resident of Eagle Rock with children attending Eagle Rock Elementary and Eagle Rock High School, I view education as a high priority for the area.

I am committed to preserving the business community as a graduate of the Abraham University School of Law and local Businessman I am aware of the concerns of local business owners and residents.

Patrick Koppula

I want to make plans that reflect the deep roots and creative thinking of this neighborhood’s committed residents. I believe council members should respect the people and values that make for long-lasting neighborhoods. I believe council members should try simple ideas to learn how to design solutions that are comprehensive rather than arguing about details. I believe council members should listen to the people they represent. To show what I mean, I made a way for residents to connect directly with the new council members via Twitter at http://twitter.eaglerockcouncil.com. I am a resident near Occidental College, a future parent in Eagle Rock’s Public schools and a catalyst for new jobs in Los Angeles County. Please feel free to privately or publicly ask me about anything that is important to you at my website http://vote4patrick.org

I’m running for the Neighborhood Council because I believe it’s important for residents to take advantage of this opportunity to be involved in the governance of their neighborhoods, and I’d like to step up to fill the Treasurer’s role. I have more than seven years of experience in local government in the Los Angeles region, including finance and urban planning. I feel that I will be able to make a valuable contribution to this council both as a resident of Eagle Rock and someone well-informed on local government’s processes, constraints and opportunities.

During my tenure, the membership has grown from 70 to over 350 and has diversified to all the different cycling disciplines and member ages & gender. The latest teams to develop were our Women and Juniors racing teams. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Having resided in Eagle Rock for over 30 years, I have seen the culture of Eagle Rock change over the decades.
As a Business Director, I will do my best to ensure that the residents and business owners of Eagle Rock have a voice in the business development of our community.

Hamilton Yutan

It is imperative that we develop a plan to cultivate the kinds of businesses that residents of Eagle Rock will be proud of.I hold an MBA from Pepperdine University.

Liam Roth

My wife and I are Eagle Rock homeowners and I operate my law practice out of the neighborhood. In my law practice, I work with small and growing businesses, so I understand the obstacles that small businesses face in today’s difficult economic climate. I am also a Board Member of the LA affiliate of the national non-profit organization, Rebuilding Together, and have experience with the process of improving of our local community. I want to work with the ERNC to continue the upward trend we have been experiencing in Eagle Rock, and foster a hospitable environment for our local businesses.

Anthony Freeny

I have been a business owner and resident in the Eagle Rock area since 1994. I have seen the surrounding neighborhoods go through many changes, good and bad. I believe that my business experience and familiarity with the area will be very beneficial to the growth and everchanging demographics of Eagle Rock.

Elva Grande

As a 28 year old mother, wife, and fellow Eagle Rocker who spent most of her youth next door in Highland Park and is familiar with ER’s surrounding neighborhoods, I believe I bring a lot to the Business Director seat. Although I don’t own a business, it works in favor for such a seat since there’s no risk of biased decision-making. I plan on reaching out to all Businesses (big & small) within the ER borders and discuss issues important to them, all while working as a mediator between businesses and residents. The Specific Plan has been brought to my attention and I am prepared to talk about this 20 year-old regulation; perhaps bringing a more comprehensive and updated plan to the table. As an experienced Business Consultant I aim to use that knowledge to find innovative ways to build stronger networks amongst our local businesses.

Gregory Luke

Having lived in Eagle Rock with my wife and three children for the past 8 years, I share the aspirations of other residents and business owners to bring out the best in our neighborhood. As a ERNC member, I will work to foster understanding and cooperation between the residents and business owners so that we can preserve property values and and promote the pedestrian-friendly, family-friendly qualities of our unique neighborhood. I have years of professional experience in land-use, community development, and the representation of citizens’ groups before courts and government agencies.

Civic participation is something I believe in, and something I try to impart to my students as a teacher at Nightingale Middle School in Cypress Park. As a home owner in Eagle Rock I think it is time to step up to the plate, and practice what I preach. I am a candidate for Education Institutions Director because I am an educator, Students Run L.A. Coach and United Teachers of Los Angeles Chapter Chairperson.

I am running for Public Safety Director because I feel the stakeholders have a right to be ACCURATELY informed of the crime situation and other public safety issues in the community that affect our our residents, our businesses, our churches, our schools, and our children. I believe the neighborhood council can be a powerful tool for discussing a variety of issues and that ALL members of the community deserve to have their voices heard when debating the important concerns of the day.

Jose Posada

For the last three years I have fought tirelessly to keep the surroundings of Eagle Rock Elementary graffiti free. I have had conversations with teenagers that sometimes use our school entrance as a hangout place to smoke marijuana. I have often asked them if they are underage, how do they get the marijuana? Of course, no logical explanation is given, other than, “None of your business.” This behavior has been reported to the local police; however, they have other pressing issues to deal with. I understand that this is our neighborhood, and we must take charge. It is for this concern that I want to be part of the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council. I want to partner with the Eagle Rock community and work at providing a safe neighborhood where families, businesses, and visitors can feel safe.

CANDIDATES FILED:

Mark Haskell Smith – Sub-District 5

I am an author and an assistant professor at UC Riverside who has lived in Eagle Rock for 10 years. I’ve seen a lot of changes, both good and bad. My goal is to work with the Neighborhood Council and build a dynamic organization that represents the viewpoints of all the members of our community and restores some economic vitality to Eagle Rock while maintaining the quality of life that makes Eagle Rock such a great place to live.

Matt Harrington – Sub-District 5

My name is Matt Harrington. As a first-time homeowner in Eagle Rock, I want to be active in the ongoing improvement of our neighborhood.
In the year I’ve been here, I’ve learnt what a great community this is. I would be proud to offer my work experiences and talents to the Council as it enters its second decade. While Eagle Rock is on the verge of great growth, I believe we cannot sacrifice that wonderful “small-town” community feel.

I am working towards my MBA and manage a department at USC’s Gould School of Law. I have a diverse background in sales and marketing, promotions, business development, and event planning and management. I am highly skilled in managing budgets, people, and resources to facilitate successful programs, events, and functions.

I would appreciate your vote for me, Matt Harrington, to serve you on Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council.

Marc Magallanes – Sub-District 7

Twenty years ago, my parents came to this neighborhood seeking a new beginning for themselves in order to raise children that would have unlimited opportunities.

Now, as a young man endowed with this community’s unwavering courage, strength, and boundless compassion, I have the unique opportunity to repay these gracious gifts representing its people faithfully in the eagle Rock neighborhood council.

The future of this neighborhood has been bright, is bright, and will always be bright due to the community leaders that cherish the welfare of the people.  However the community needs new leaders aware of the shifting era ahead.  With a heritage as diverse and nuanced as its people, I understand the community and the opportunities yet to come.  It’s a new day in Eagle Rock.

Baker Montgomery – Sub-District 1

I am running for the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council because I believe life for those of us lucky enough to live or work here can be even better. When I first saw Eagle Rock, I fell in love with the small town charm and kind citizenry, its natural beauty and diversity. However, we are not without our problems and I want to work on the council to improve Eagle Rock, to make it an even better place to live. I support medical marijuana although I favor, as do most of the collectives, much stronger regulation. I am a firm supporter of the Take Back The Boulevard initiative as a more bike and pedestrian friendly thoroughfare will do more to revitalize the main commercial district on Colorado than anything else (I also support a similar measure to make Eagle Rock Blvd. more amiable to pedestrians and bicyclists).

Michael Blanchard – Sub-District 7

I’m Michael Blanchard, running for Director of Sub-District 7. I live with my wife and two sons on Vincent Avenue, where we bought our home in 2003. I work as a musician and video game producer. Eagle Rock is a neighborhood of families, individuals, and businesses with a feeling of community that is hard to find in Los Angeles today. I will work to sustain and grow that community with a focus on health, safety, and quality of life for all Eagle Rock residents.

Duy Tran – Sub-District 1

My name is Duy Tran and I am a current Director of Sub-District 1. I love living in Eagle Rock because it is a diverse community where neighbors still know each other on a first name basis, a place where independent ideas and arts have a home, and a place where small businesses thrive.

Through the years of living in Eagle Rock, first as a student at Occidental College and now as a parent, I saw many changes that came into our community and dedication of many it took to turn Eagle Rock into the vibrant community we have today. I joined the Neighborhood Council to ensure that the future of Eagle Rock remains a supportive environment for our families, the Arts, and independent businesses.

I am a current staff member for the Public Health Policy and Special Projects Unit of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Ethan Weiss – Sub-District 6

Four years ago I arrived in Eagle Rock by chance. Today, after graduating from Occidental College, I’m choosing to stay here, because Eagle Rock was the reason I’ve come to love Los Angeles.

I’m running for Neighborhood Council because I care deeply about the quality of life we enjoy here in Eagle Rock. I want to give back what’s been given to me.

To do that, one of the first things we can do is update our Specific Plan. We have now a choice about how to plan for the future – how to hold on to what we love about this town. We can use the opportunity of a new Specific Plan to get all of our planning processes under one roof and to jumpstart a new entry point for civic engagement in Eagle Rock.

Let’s move this town forward. I hope to have your vote on October 13.

John Goldfarb WITHDREW

Ursula Angell WITHDREW

David Greene – Sub-District 8

I’m David Greene, and I’m running for Sub-District 8 Director. Our family has lived in Eagle Rock for 12 years; we’re homeowners and proud Dahlia Heights Elementary parents. We’ve seen lots of changes in our town over the years, as new small businesses, young families, and smart, engaged, hard-working citizens have chosen to make Eagle Rock their home. But with the recent influx of illegal enterprises and their out-of-town clients, plus abandoned building projects that blight the landscape, now more than ever it’s crucial that the personal safety and economic prosperity of Eagle Rockers be preserved and protected. As an ERNC member, I’ll work with other pragmatic stakeholders to defend and improve Eagle Rock’s hard-won reputation as a safe, family- and business-friendly oasis amid the chaotic urban landscape of L.A.

David Kofahl – Sub-District 6

In my last term as a ERNC Board Member, my approach was to help individuals in the community interact with Los Angeles City resources. I would like to continue with this work, specifically assisting stake holders with issues related to the Departments of Planning, Zoning, Building and Safety, City Clerk and City Attorney.
Keeping stake holders informed of the current issues in front of the ERNC and LA City Council, and encouraging high quality development in Eagle Rock will be my main tasks during the next term. I also serve on the ERNC Planning and Land Use Committee and Colorado Blvd Specific Plan Design Review Board.

Oren Bitan – Sub-District 3

As the current Public Safety Director of the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council, and as an attorney specializing in real estate and intellectual property, I hope to focus my involvement with the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council’s Land Use Committee over the next two years to protect and improve Eagle Rock’s culture, attract new businesses desired by the community, and to improve pedestrian and cycling safety along Colorado Boulevard.

Carolyn Tribe – Sub-District 2

I’m Kerry Tribe, and I’m running for Director of Sub-District 2. I have owned a home and lived in Eagle Rock with my husband since 2003. I’m a visual artist, professor and parent to two young boys. I love Eagle Rock and want to see it grow in ways that are both forward-thinking and sensitive to its rich and diverse history. As a parent, I feel especially committed to keeping the neighborhood safe, friendly, conscientious and green — to see local businesses flourish and families here thrive. I want Eagle Rock to continue to be a place we love, and a place where all of us can have our voices heard, respected and represented. It would be an honor to be entrusted with your vote. Thank you for your consideration.

Michelle Frier – Sub-District 4

My grandmother attended Eagle Rock High in the mid 1930’s and after starting my own family just blocks away from where she grew up, I feel fortunate to live in a neighborhood where history, celebration and community are still valued.

Serving as an ERNC district director I will strive to focus on issues that that improve the health, safety and welfare of Eagle Rock. Working in the field of Landscape Architecture for the last ten years in Los Angeles, I believe we can support the continued improvement of our community by supporting the arts, promoting safe and easy walkability in our neighborhoods, increasing and preserving open space and parks and supporting intelligent growth.

I hope to get my your vote on October 13th.
