If re-elected I would like to continue chairing the Cypress Park Cinco de Mayo Parade and Festival. In addition I would like to take on a couple of issues that would have to be addressed at the Land Use committee of the GCPNC. For starters, I would like to see some bus shelters on the bus routes. The riders need protection from the sun and the rain. I would like to encourage some businesses to start a Chamber of Commerce if one isn’t already in the early stages. This could be a way to also begin some community beautification.

Alexia Teran

I have been involved in my community for many years.  I am showing them what services are availabe from the city and how to have acces to them.  I am also helping them to learm about the elected officials, City Hall and how to reach them.  I have provided Disaster Prevention Workshops at the Cypress Park Youth & Familiy Center of the Cypress Park Library; such as, CERT, Red Cross.  At the C.P. Library I plan used book sales at an inexpensive amount to help the families with their literacy skills.  I have volunteered for the NE LAPD.  I collaborate & partner with other N.C.’s such as the ASNC, Elysian Valley. Elysian Valley N.C. & Greater Cypress Park N.C. are working with metro link to lower their hazardous air and noise emissions.

With the ASNC I do my outreach at their Lummis Day Festival.

I am bilingual in Spanish.

My community is about 75% Spanish speaking.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Alexia Teran

I am a simple candidate with simple interests. My house got tagged a couple months back with a bunch of other neighbors’ homes and I had no idea what to do. The tagging occurred around 9am on a Saturday morning during daylight hours. Everyone tried calling LAPD but only got a front desk receptionist taking notes. It took me making numerous phone calls that I finally got ahold of the right person in LAPD. Now if any tagging occurs on my street I can handle it right away and get the proper response. We all live in the same community, and share in experiencing many of the same issues that happen to all of us. If we all know the best way to resolve the issues we live with, we would live in a better community. I want the Greater Cypress Neighborhood Council to be a resource that everyone knows about and where anyone can find answers and support for any issue.
Thanks,
Rory Olsen

I am the Principal at Nightingale Middle School. My interest in the GCPNC is two-fold. First, as someone who works with the youth in the community, I want to learn more about the needs of the community and work toward addressing some of the issues that the students and their families face. Second, it is my personal and professional goal to reunite the schools with the communities in which they reside. In recent years, schools have become out of touch with their communities. I hope to bridge that gap.

Arturo Meza

My name is Art Meza I work for the cypress Park Library and I want to take a more active role in improving our community.
During my first year at the library i’ve helped put together programess that have brough a lot of positive attention to not only the branch but our community as well.
I have confidence in what i can do for the neighborhood and would greatly appreciate your vote of confidence in me.
Thank you, Art Meza

Ann Walnum

I am running for Greater Cypress Park Neighborhood Council because I have eight years participated in Cypress Park activities with Friends of Cypress Park Improvement Association.  We have done community clean-ups, Veterans’ Celebrations, Las Posadas, tree give-aways, and two community survey projects in coordination with municipal agencies.  I have also works with Friends of Cypress Park Library.  For the past six years I have conducted free violin classes through Anahuak Soccer League.  I am currently teaching a class at Cypress Park Community Center, in addition to classes at Highland Park.  The violinists have taken park in Cypress Park Cinco de Mayo parades and Northeast Peace March programs.  After four years as Mt. Washington area rep. on Arroyo Seco N.C.,  I am termed out, but would like to continue Neighborhood Council Service with my friends in Cypress Park.
