I hope our newsletter finds you well. We are coming down the homestretch of our election cycle after Region 8 elections on Saturday. It’s been an exciting ride, and I expect it to continue that way until the end on June 18th. Our Neighborhood Council selections are also having strong showings with over 600 people turning out for the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council selection on Saturday. We’re expecting big time voting in the other Neighborhood Council selections in the Harbor as well in June. Kudos to the Harbor for connecting with their stakeholders! We’re off this weekend, but will pick right back up on Sunday, June 5th for Region 11 elections.

CivicYouthBlog_V1I was really excited to have a meeting with Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Office of Public Engagement and his Innovation Team this week to go over the proposed curriculum of our collaboration on the Neighborhood Council Civic Youth program this summer. We’ll be conducting 6 free trainings to train up Neighborhood Council youth members (16-21 years old) for a lifetime of civic engagement. It’s going to be amazing with awesome speakers, and if your Neighborhood Council has youth board and committee members or have some youth stakeholders who want to get involved in the Neighborhood Council system, please have them apply for one of the 40 spots on our website. We’re only one week away from the the Friday, June 3rd, deadline so apply now!

Just a reminder that the Neighborhood Council Emergency Preparedness Alliance will not be meeting tomorrow and that our offices will be closed on Monday, May 30th, in observance of Memorial Day. Hope you have a relaxing long weekend!
