I hope our newsletter finds you well.  We had an awesome Congress of Neighborhoods on Saturday with nearly 900 Neighborhood Council board members at City Hall.  HUGE thanks to our Congress of Neighborhoods Planning Committee, chaired by the AWESOME Cindy Cleghorn, our EmpowerLA staff, especially Jasmine Duckworth and Mary Kim, and all of the Neighborhood Councils, City electeds/departments and volunteers that make the Congress possible each year!  Much appreciation to Mayor Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, and Mid City Neighborhood Council youth board member, Lily Larsen, for speaking at the opening session and to Board of Neighborhood Commissioners President Joy Atkinson for providing words of wisdom in the closing session.  It was truly a super Congress!

I was happy to stop by the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council board meeting on Wednesday to see them hard at work for their community.  On Thursday, I was very pleased to swear in the new board members for Hermon Neighborhood Council before running over to the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils to listen to them discuss issues affecting not only the Valley Neighborhood Councils, but all Neighborhood Councils citywide, such as the new regulations for cannabis.  The Rules, Elections and Intergovernmental Relations Committee will be reviewing multiple Council Files on cannabis at a special meeting on September 25th.  All Neighborhood Councils should be weighing in with Community Impact Statements on the cannabis Council Files.  Please make your community’s voice heard on this important issue.

Thanks for all you do to Empower LA!  Have a great weekend!
