GM’s Message 1.6.17

I hope our newsletter finds you well. Happy 2017 from EmpowerLA! We’ve hit the ground running in the new year with a great celebration on Tuesday night with the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners for Glassell Park Neighborhood Council’s (the rock star of Community Impact Statements with 19 filed so far this fiscal year!) 15th Anniversary. Commissioner Maggie Darott-Quiroz was actually one of the founding members of the GPNC along with Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, who was a stakeholder in the community. Commissioner Darott-Quiroz brought a cake with a picture of the original certifying group, which we enjoyed after presentations to current and former GPNC board members from Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Gil Cedillo and Councilmember O’Farrell’s staff. I’m looking forward to recognizing the remaining 54 Neighborhood Councils who will be reaching 15 years in 2017. Thank you for your amazing work all of these years for LA!

Because of the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 16th, the Commission will be cancelling their regular meeting that day.  They will be having a retreat on Monday, January 23rd, at the North Valley City Hall from 10 am – 2 pm where everyone is invited.  The Commissioners will be working on their strategic plan for the year so please come and give your input.  You can also email your comments to commission@empowerla.org.
Don’t forget that the NC/LADWP Oversight Committee and the LANCC meet tomorrow.  Also, the Department of Animal Services will be holding their first meeting with the Neighborhood Council Animal Services Liaisons on Monday in Ramona Hall.  Hope to see you there!
Have a wonderful weekend!
