I hope our newsletter finds you well and recovered from any food comas from last week. I’m so happy to be celebrating the 15th year anniversary of our first Neighborhood Councils next Tuesday with the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners. Wilmington and Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Councils will be honored at Bannings Landing by the Commission and EmpowerLA, which is where they were certified 15 years ago. I hope that you will join us in celebrating this great achievement!

Leyla CamposWe have a bittersweet good-bye this week to our Director of Neighborhood Council Operations, Leyla Campos. Leyla transferred from our department, but happily, will still be working with the Neighborhood Council system because she is moving to the Office of the City Clerk to oversee the Neighborhood Council Funding Program. It’s been such a pleasure to work with Leyla, and while I am sad to see her go, it’s comforting to know that she will continue her advocacy work for Neighborhood Councils. We’re wishing Leyla the best!

The RSVPs for January’s Neighborhood Council Civic University 1.0 have started to come in to meet the Friday, December 16th, due date. We’re really thrilled to partner with Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Pat Brown Institute of Cal State Los Angeles to offer such a wonderful civics training to our Neighborhood Council members. The first series received rave reviews so I know that you will really enjoy this class. We are only able to offer this course once every fiscal year to two members (1 woman, 1 man) from each Neighborhood Council so I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Don’t forget that the Neighborhood Council/LADWP MOU Oversight Committee and the LANCC meet tomorrow. Have an excellent weekend!
