I hope our newsletter finds you well.  I was happy to stop by the Congress Planning Committee on Sunday with my dog, Groot, to talk about the plans for making this year’s Congress better than ever.  For more information on how you can participate in the planning of the Congress, check out the article below.  The Congress, EmpowerLA Awards and Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates relies in part on Neighborhood Council funding support so if your Neighborhood Council wants to contribute, you will have until June 1, 2017 to vote and submit your board resolution form.  If you haven’t RSVP’d yet for the March 30, 2017 EmpowerLA Awards, please take the time to do so now.  Since it is at City Hall, space will be limited for the dinner and awards so don’t miss it!

Speaking of great awards, I stopped by the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils’ Annual Mixer last night where VANC founder and chair, Jill Banks Barad, was recognized by the State Senate and Assembly for her wonderful work. Our awesome Controller Ron Galperin was there along with Councilmembers Nury Martinez and Paul Krekorian. Board of Public Works President Kevin James also stopped by to speak with the Neighborhood Councils before awards were presented to the Valley Neighborhood Councils for some pretty awesome projects. We’ll get a summary in our newsletter next week. Congratulations to Jill and the Valley Neighborhood Council award winners!

Kudos as well to the Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates for releasing their Back to Basics white paper this week with recommendations for a sustainable future on the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 City budget.  This report is the result of hundreds of hours of interviews and meetings by the Budget Advocates, which is truly inspirational.  HUGE thanks to them for all of their hard work!!

Don’t forget that PlanCheckNC meets tomorrow.

Have an awesome weekend!
