MTA Approves Mayor Garcetti’s Motion to Electrify Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit

LOS ANGELES — The Orange Line is going green. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Board today approved a motion to use all electric buses on the Orange Line by 2020.

Introduced by Los Angeles Mayor and Metro Board First Vice Chair Eric Garcetti — and co-authored by Board members Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and Councilmember Paul Krekorian — the motion represents a critical investment in sustainable transportation infrastructure.

“We don’t have to choose between reducing emissions and building the the 21st century transportation system our region deserves,” said Mayor Garcetti. “This demonstrates that as we expand and accelerate rapid transit bus service in the San Fernando Valley and across L.A. County, we can improve our air quality and reduce noise pollution. And it brings us another step closer to the goal of running a zero-emission fleet.” (continue reading at LA Mayor)
