Mayor Eric Garcetti announced a surge in new jobs across the city, and highlighted new resources available to help businesses create more jobs.

According to the new figures released by the UCLA Anderson School of Management, Los Angeles’ unemployment rate is 5.8 percent — half of what it was at the peak of the recession in 2012. Since Mayor Garcetti took office in 2013, the economy has added approximately 109,000 jobs.

The jobs numbers point to an economic resurgence that is stimulating business growth and creating new jobs across the City.

“Since the peak of the recession, L.A.’s job market has come roaring back,” said Mayor Garcetti. “This progress is a testament to Angelenos’ resilience, creativity, and innovative spirit. And it shows that when we work together, there’s no problem we can’t solve.”

Mayor Garcetti unveiled new City resources today that will help local small businesses expand and hire more workers, including the first major overhaul in 15 years to the City’s Business Assistance Virtual Network (BAVN) — the online portal that connects businesses with City contracting opportunities. Through this portal, businesses can sign up to be notified when contracts are available for bidding, and guided through the bidding process. BAVN can be viewed at www.labavn.org.
