How would you fill a $216 million budget gap and balance the City’s budget? You and your fellow Neighborhood Council members and stakeholders are encouraged to provide your input by taking the 2013 Los Angeles Budget Challenge at LA.BudgetChallenge.org starting February 1 (download the 20 page print survey here). Developed with input from your Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates, the survey gives you the opportunity to share your priorities for balancing the City of Los Angeles’ budget.
The survey will remain open for the month of February to give you the opportunity to share the survey with your boards and with the wider public. Once all of the survey responses have been collected, the Mayor’s Office and your Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates will tally the results, present them to the Mayor and make them publically available.
We welcome you to place a link to the survey onto your Neighborhood Council webpage (if you are interested and able), so that your stakeholders have convenient access to it. Over the last couple years, between 5,000 and 10,000 people have taken the annual survey. That’s a relatively small number if we consider the 4 million people who live in the City of Los Angeles. We hope that many more people will take this year’s Budget Challenge. A robust response will also help your Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates to have a fuller sense of your communities’ priorities, as they advocate for you before City officials.
The Mayor and City Council have tough choices up ahead, as they address the budget gap. How would you fill that gap? Tell us by taking the 2013 Los Angeles Budget Challenge. Thank you in advance for spreading the word to your fellow Angelenos about this opportunity for providing their input into the budget process.
