Launched this Veterans’ Day, VetsGo511 is a new way for veterans and their families to connect to vital resources and find the best ways to get to them. Resources include:

Transportation
Employment
Housing
Healthcare
Finance
Education
Community

The Los Angeles County Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (LA SAFE), LA Metro, and the Federal Transit Administration have partnered to bring together all these resources in one place, as well as a time-saving, easy-to-use trip planner to help veterans get to them.

The VetsGo511 website is the first part of a comprehensive program offering better transportation choices for veterans. The Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative (VTCLI) federal grant program program brings together transportation service providers to tackle veteran and active military mobility issues by bridging the gap between transportation providers, human service agencies, governmental veteran and military service providers, as well as non-profit veteran and military family support organizations.

“Veterans have done so much in their service to our country, and this is just one way for us to serve them,” said Eric Garcetti, Mayor of Los Angeles, Metro Board Chair and Navy reservist. “The least we could do this Veteran’s Day is to give our vets and those in the military community a new resource that can make their lives and commute a little bit easier.”

In addition to VetsGo511, the VTCLI will build on the success of Southern California 511 by improving access to transportation information through a variety of new products and resources to be rolled out over the next several months, including:

  • Fleet-tracking services on all shuttles and buses for the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration (VA)
  • Automation of scheduling for Access Services (Access) eligibility appointments
  • Interactive kiosks at VA facilities
  • Alternative route information to and from VA facilities
  • Real-time arrival displays at VA facilities
  • Capital improvements to 511 for more streamlined traveler information for veterans and their families

Be sure to check the website frequently for updates on how VetsGo511 will continue to be your one-stop source to find the services you need, and provide improved transportation options to get you there with ease.
