ELection-Newsletter---May-18---Election-Essentials---Election-Page-diagram

Increase voter turnout by giving your stakeholders clear, simple, and complete information about your upcoming Election. Here’s a guide to the Election essentials you can share and tips on the best way to share them.

WHAT TO SHARE

Your Election Homepage
If you share just one thing with your voters, give them your Neighborhood Council’s Election homepage on the EmpowerLA website. This page contains all the details voters need to participate in your election, such as the date/time/location of your official polls, and links to a list of candidates; voter registration; and voting portal. Your Election homepage will look like the one depicted below. (Don’t know how to find your Election homepage? See this article.)

Online Voting Portal
If your Council has Online Voting, your voting portal may be accessed by clicking the VOTE HERE button in the center of your Election homepage (see image above). Consider sharing the direct link to that portal in your promotions, as a convenience to your voters.

Online Voter Registration
Online voter registration is open until 1 week prior to your Election Day. However, for Online Elections, voters may also register in person at a Pop-Up Poll, or at the official polls on Election Day. To make it easy for voters, let them know when and how they may register, and consider sharing the direct link to your Council’s voter registration page, which is accessed by clicking the Voter Registration button indicated in the image above.

Qualifying Documents List
If your Council requires documentation to vote, help voters prepare for Election Day by sharing this easy-to-understand list of accepted qualifying documents: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1H9rSoAaEVR2yqR9uIVdzOGchIC3jz3I_7hSEEuc8kkw/edit?usp=drive_web

Candidates List
Your Council’s Candidates list can be accessed by clicking the big blue button at the bottom of your Election homepage (see image above.) Let voters know where to find that button – or better yet, give them the direct link to your Candidates webpage.

Pop-Up Polls
If your Council is having Online Elections, these mobile voting stations are great for people who can’t make it on Election Day or who need help with Online Voter Registration. Make sure to alert your stakeholders about the date/time/location of upcoming Pop-Up Polls in your area – you’ll find a current list on this page: https://empowerla.org/popuppolls. Don’t forget that the EmpowerLA office has a Pop-Up Poll right in our lobby on the 20th floor of LA City Hall. It’s open weekdays during regular business hours, and anyone may vote there who is a stakeholder of a Neighborhood Council currently having an Online Election.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL SHARING

Where to post Election info
It’s a good practice to include election details in all your printed promotions as well as on your Neighborhood Council website, newsletter, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and any other social media platform.

Shorten links
Long URLs are hard to use fit into tweets or onto printed flyers and posters, and they’re difficult to remember. Consider shortening Election links with a URL shortener before sharing them with stakeholders. Learn how to shorten links in this article.
