Plastic pollution is a big problem for our oceans and waterways.

Plastics do not break down in the environment, but instead break up into smaller pieces, which are ingested by marine life and poison, starve or suffocate them.

To reduce the harmful effects of plastic pollution, the City of Los Angeles has adopted a plastic Straws-on-Request Ordinance to encourage everyone to reduce their use of disposable plastic straws.

The Ordinance becomes effective on April 22, 2019, in honor of Earth Day.

Please see LA City Sanitation’s webpage about this Ordinance for more details: lacitysan.org/straws

And please consider purchasing your own reusable straws!
