Are you ready for a major disaster? No?
Take time to prepare now! Please join the LAFD and the Disaster Preparedness Group (DPG) on September 27 from 9-12 am for the free 3-hour Disaster Awareness Course (DAC) taught by Captain Stacy Gerlich of LAFD’s Homeland Security Division.
The program focuses specifically on business, community, family, and individual preparedness. DAC helps people to plan for the inevitable and to enact pre-disaster skills and training useful during a disaster. It helps to prepare loved-ones, families, co-workers and friends to survive while they are waiting for the assistance from first responders to arrive.
The DAC will emphasize the importance of preparing individual and family emergency plans, emergency supply kits, and learning how to access critical information following a disaster. These are all concerns that can be addressed before a catastrophe occurs.
Come on out to the Iglesia Cristiana Antioquia, 3501 West Adams Boulevard (at Fifth Avenue), Los Angeles, 90018. Arrive by 7:30 am for delicious ‘eye-opener’ treats, raffles and a chance to browse for valuable disaster preparedness information and materials!

The DAC is being staged by the LAFD and the Disaster Preparedness Group in cooperation with community partners: the Iglesia Cristiana Antioquia, Holman United Methodist Church, United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council, Mid City Neighborhood Council, Office of City Council President Herb Wesson, and LAFD’s CERT and Neighborhood Team Programs. We also have major sponsors including the Southern California Gas Company and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.
