The Mayor’s Executive Directive #17 calls on the City of LA to provide the framework for leading an innovative, multi-year effort in the City of Los Angeles to improve the lives of today’s older adults and to create a better tomorrow for future generations.

It is with that goal in mind that the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment is organizing the Neighborhood Council Purposeful Aging Liaison Town Hall with the following desired outcomes.

  1. Present the Mayoral Directive #17 to the Neighborhood Council Purposeful Aging Liaisons (Liaisons) for participation
  2. Introduce LA’s Aging Department to the Liaisons, giving an overview of the significant opportunity we have to support the work of the Purposeful Aging Task Force
  3. Introduce leadership from City Hall who are the champions of making our city a better designed and more livable community for residents of all ages
  4. Introduce Department Leadership who will give an overview of the specific services that they provide to the seniors in Los Angeles
  5. Introduce best practices from existing Neighborhood Council Purposeful Aging Liaisons and Committees
  6. Establish solid relationships between the Liaisons and the City Department that deliver the services and support to our seniors
  7. Establish opportunities for Neighborhood Councils to be a resource for their communities
  8. Establish opportunities for Neighborhood Councils to be a resource for the Purposeful Aging Task Force and the City Departments

The Town Hall is scheduled for:

Tuesday, January 31, 2017
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Public Works Chambers
Los Angeles City Hall
200 North Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012

Each Neighborhood Council can designate one Purposeful Aging Liaison to represent the council. The Liaison can be appointed by the President or by the Board.

Neighborhood Council Purposeful Aging Liaisons will have the opportunity to meet the General Manager of the Department of Aging as well as leadership from departments and organizations that deliver services and support to the seniors in our community.

In addition, Neighborhood Council leaders will be engaging the new Liaisons in a robust conversation of Purposeful Aging and Aging in Place, concepts that will become a reality through the concerted efforts of City Hall leadership, Department leadership, and Neighborhood Council partners.

In addition, Neighborhood Council Purposeful Aging Liaisons will be offering best practices from their experience working with the City of LA and with the seniors in their communities, including sharing information about the many services that are available and best practices for engaging seniors and sharing information so that they can get the support they need.
