The Budget Advocates invite you to Regional Budget Day this Saturday, October 11, taking place at 5 locations around the city. By providing a community voice to the Mayor and the City Council about budget priorities, the Budget Advocates aim to integrate Neighborhood Councils more fully into the shaping of the City budget, to help next fiscal year’s City budget meet the needs and concerns of LA’s communities during a time of budget crisis, to increase Neighborhood Council leaders’ knowledge of the Los Angeles budget process, and to help develop relationships among Neighborhood Council leaders, Neighborhood Councils and City Departments, and Neighborhood Councils and the Mayor’s office.

Paying attention to the City’s budget decisions is a crucial aspect of being engaged in planning the future of Los Angeles communities. “Everything we expect our City to do for us is dependent on the budget.” said NCBA Co-Chair Jay Handal. “We want the streets and sidewalks fixed—it depends on the budget.  We want our police and paramedics to respond quickly to emergencies—it depends on the budget. Everything we want our City to provide comes from the budget and it is incumbent for the people to pay attention.”
