Day of education & networking for NC leaders features 40 workshops + exhibits

Registration begins Monday August 22nd for the 2016 Congress of Neighborhoods at Los Angeles City Hall. Over 700 Neighborhood Council leaders from across the City are expected to attend the annual event, which happens Saturday, September 24th. Everything is *free* if you RSVP, including admission to over 40 workshops, exhibit tables, catered meals; and parking! Sign up at www.NCCongressLA.com.

The Congress is the year’s biggest opportunity for Neighborhood Council leaders to get training on skills and subjects key to Neighborhood Council success; network with elected officials and staff from every City department; build relationships with members of other boards; and meet regional and citywide alliances of Neighborhood Councils. This year’s theme – “Neighborhoods First: Your Voice, Our City” – examines how local focus can create citywide impact.

2016 WORKSHOPS
Over 40 workshops and discussion panels will be offered at the Congress in four 75-minute sessions. See the full list here. Choose from topics like:

  • Leadership skills
  • Planning & land use class series
  • Managing your City funds
  • Writing & sharing Community Impact Statements
  • Code enforcement
  • Outreach, social media & PR

Ethics training (which is required of all Neighborhood Council members) will also be available. Classroom space fills up fast, so early registration is encouraged.

HEADLINE SPEAKERS
Each year, leading City officials like the Mayor; City Councilmembers; City Controller; and City Attorney have spoken at the opening and closing sessions of the Congress. Watch this newsletter for upcoming announcements about this year’s headliners.

EVENT SCHEDULE
The Congress runs from 7:45 am – 4:30 pm. Though attendees may come and go as they please, we’d love for you to stay all day! The first workshop does not begin till 9:25 am, as it is preceded by breakfast and the opening session. See the full schedule here.

SPONSOR THE CONGRESS
The Congress would not be possible without funding from the Neighborhood Councils and partnership with the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. We encourage all Neighborhood Councils to contribute to the Congress by completing this form. Sponsors will be promoted on the Congress website and social media, and recognized at the event.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Congress of Neighborhoods is by Neighborhood Councils for Neighborhood Councils, so volunteers and sponsors are needed and much-appreciated. If you or your stakeholders would like to volunteer, please fill out this form. Learn more about the different volunteer opportunities available here.
