The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is inviting local jurisdictions and the public to help shape the future of the Southern California region in a series of open houses. In Los Angeles County, the Open Houses kick off on June 15 in Culver City.

The public will be asked to share their views on the new 2016-2040 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy (RTP/SCS), a long-range plan that hopes to meet our future needs by addressing issues such as the region’s bus, rail and freeway network, workforce development, land use, housing, air quality, goods movement and public health. It is imperative that as many people as possible get involved and provide feedback to ensure the best possible plan for Southern California.

A total of 20 Open Houses will be held throughout SCAG’s six-county region. In Los Angeles County, there will be a total of six open houses in Culver City, Calabasas, Santa Clarita, Carson, Paramount and Monrovia. The purpose of the open houses is to gather input from residents regarding the issues and challenges each community faces, and to establish planning priorities for the next 20 to 30 years.

Now celebrating its 50th year, the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) is the largest Metropolitan Planning Organization and Council of Governments in the nation. The agency is governed by a Regional Council consisting of 86 elected officials from Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. Federal and state mandates require SCAG to research, analyze and prepare comprehensive regional plans for transportation, land use, housing, air quality and related issues to enhance the overall quality of life for the 18 million residents of Southern California. SCAG conducts all planning efforts in coordination with regional partners and stakeholders.
