Signed by Mayor Eric Garcetti on August 24, the Vision Zero Initiative aims to reduce the number of fatalities caused by motor vehicles by 20% by 2017 and to zero by the year 2025, and change the City of Los Angeles status of being the second in the nation for number of people that are killed by motor vehicles when walking. The Vision Zero Initiative has tasked both the Department of Transportation and the Los Angeles Police Department to work with appropriate city departments to achieve the goal of eradicating motor vehicle-related fatalities in the City of Los Angeles by aligning available resources toward this end. All of our neighborhood Councils should see this as an opportunity to continue engaging with City Hall to help shape related policies and help identify neighborhoods heavily impacted by traffic collisions.
