Since its inception in 1999, the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (Empower LA) has grown into the nation’s largest and most innovative initiative in civic engagement and citizen-based government. More than 1,700 Neighborhood Council Board Members are elected or selected by their community to serve on their local boards and work to improve the City’s delivery of services to their area.

Neighborhood Council elections are held every two years, and the next election cycle is coming up in the spring of 2016! There are exciting new developments taking place, including the introduction of online voting for the first time in Neighborhood Council history.

Want to get involved in the elections process, meet your neighbors, and get paid while doing it? EmpowerLA is hiring election managers, independent election administrators, election assistants, and poll managers to work during the 2016 election season. These temporary/seasonal positions range in time and responsibilities, but all serve crucial functions in making the elections process run smoothly. You’ll get to attend elections and meet NC board members and stakeholders from across the city and play an important role in promoting the democratic process. We need your help to ensure that elections run smoothly, fairly, and efficiently. Apply today!

  • Digital Election Manager: application deadline August 31
  • Election Assistants: application deadline August 31

In addition, the Department will be hiring Independent Election Administrators, Poll Managers, and Assistant Poll Managers to organize Neighborhood Council outreach campaigns, conduct Neighborhood Council elections, and train/supervise Election volunteers. That application process will open in October.

  • Independent Election Administrators: application period opens October 1
  • Poll Managers and Assistant Poll Managers: application period opens October 1

We are seeking candidates who possess strong organizational and analytical skills, the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and to work under pressure, and the flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as required during election season.

If you are interested in joining the EmpowerLA Elections Team, email Elections@EmpowerLA.org to request a job description or to submit a resume.

As always, thanks for all you do to Empower LA.
