The West Adams Heritage Association (WAHA) is pleased to invite you to launch the Holiday Season with a bit of “Merrymaking in Kinney Heights,” their 28th annual Holiday Tour & Progressive Dinner.

Prepaid reservations are required for the event, and WAHA reports that ticket sales have been brisk for this popular year-end tour and they’ve already sold twice as many tickets as they did last year. Reservations are still available for the 6:00pm and 6:45pm guided tours on December 7. Make yours now!

While this neighborhood shares much of the same history of development and growth as the other enclaves of Historic West Adams, Kinney Heights has a few unique elements in its past that we will be excited to share with you during the course of our tour.

The Kinney Heights neighborhood was developed by Abbot Kinney, who also developed the Venice area as a seaside resort in 1905. The neighborhood also features Gramercy Park, a small cul-de-sac designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and his sons, most famous for designing Central Park in New York City.

Among the many architects who designed homes and buildings in Kinney Heights are Robert D. Farquahar who designed the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library (Los Angeles Cultural Historic Monument No. 28), as well as Frank M. Tyler, Sumner Hunt, A. Wesley Eager and Silars R. Burns, who practiced independently as well as collaboratively during their careers.

Today, Kinney Heights occupies a very central position, both geographically and culturally, as a dynamic neighborhood within the greater West Adams district. We look forward to sharing these lovely homes with you, as we carry on the tradition of “Merrymaking in Kinney Heights.”
