Volunteers are essential to a successful Election Day, and everyone’s help is needed, and much-appreciated. Board Members and candidates make excellent election volunteers, because they have so much passion for their neighborhood. However, in order to avoid potential conflicts of interest, there are a few basic parameters Board Members and candidates must follow at the polls on Election Day.

Current Board Members are welcome to volunteer at the election polls for their own Neighborhood Councils, so long as they are not a candidate in the current election. However, candidates in the current election – whether they are already a Board Member or not – may not volunteer at the polls during polling hours for their own council. This is the case even if the candidate is running uncontested. Candidates are welcome to help set up and break down their polling location, though, so long as they don’t remain on-premises (except to cast their own ballots) during actual polling hours.

Candidates are also welcome to volunteer at the polls for other Councils. As a reminder, no one may electioneer on the polling premises, and this is true for anyone, regardless of whether they are a Board Member, Candidate, paid worker, or volunteer.
