If there is a tie between two or more candidates running for the same Neighborhood Council seat, the tie is resolved by drawing straws. The drawing of straws may happen immediately after ballots are counted, if all the candidates involved (or their designated representatives) are present; otherwise, it will happen within two calendar days after the canvass of votes is complete, and an appropriate notice is posted on the EmpowerLA website. In either case, the tie resolution will be conducted by the Independent Election Administrator (IEA) for that Council, or by other EmpowerLA staff, and it will be held in public view. All candidates involved will be requested to be present; if they cannot personally attend the drawing of straws, they will be asked to designate a representative to attend on their behalf.
