Anabell Chavez – Being part of the Wilmington Neighborhood Council since 2010 has really been a learning experience. Initially not knowing how community politics worked it was all new to me. It hasn’t been until recently that I’ve really learned the mechanics of how it all works. Witnessing the increase of community engagement and being able to ignite that has been so rewarding and there is still so much work to be done and until now I feel like we’re slowly getting there. The WNC was the first neighborhood council to be established in the city and I want to help maintain it’s reputation, but most importantly my goal is to help transform Wilmington into a better place for families to live in. I love Wilmington. |
Maria DeJesus – I grew up in Wilmington. I left Wilmington in 2007 when I joined the Air Force and came back in 2012, realizing that there is no place like home. Comparing Wilmington to 2007 makes me both proud and sad. I’m so happy with all the improvement but sadden with the violence and trash everywhere. Now as an adult and a mother, I see that Wilmington needs a sort of mother. There is so much potential here but it is blocked with the violence, drugs and alcohol. I want my children to grow up here and have my husband, a Philadelphian, to fall in love with this city I love so much. |
Carmen Elizabeth Chavez – As a life-long community member of Wilmington, I would like to serve as member at large and advocate the needs and concerns of our community. |
Erika De Reza – Hello! My name is Erika De Reza. I am a lifelong Wilmington resident. I care about my community and often times find myself wondering what I can do to make it a better place for people. Community engagement, Unity, and empowering the residents of Wilmington to establish a much more prominent vicinity. Together, we can create and improve Wilmington! |
Matthew Adair – My name is Matthew Adair, and I am a Wilmington resident as well as a past teacher at Banning HS. I believe in volunteerism and people working together to improve their community, and I am a regular volunteer with Clean Wilmington. Due to the economic realities of Los Angeles, the city cannot support all of our communityâ??s needs, so we must work together to fill in the gaps. While at Banning I created the Pilot Dream Team, which was a club devoted to helping our undocumented students earn scholarships and attend college. If elected to serve the community on the Wilmington Neighborhood Council I will work tirelessly to ensure that Wilmington is a safe place to raise our children, to ensure that Wilmington is a prosperous place for residents and businesses, and to ensure that Wilmington has the finest schools in the city. Thank you for your consideration. |
