John Guevarra – My mission is to ensure people, most importantly children, have the opportunity to live in good health. Neighborhoods matter, and serving on the Westlake North Neighborhood Council allows me to serve as an advocate for Westlake residents and businesses in pursuit of healthy opportunities. As an urban planner and economic development specialist, I understand the importance of Westlake as a cultural and tourist destination, one of the densest neighborhoods in LA, and for thousands of residents and businesses: a place to live, play and work. As a neighborhood council member, I believe I can help to support Westlake community members and businesses to determine how public resources are allocated, to contribute to public policy dialogue, and to build a healthier neighborhood.
Erika_Patterson_photoErika Thi Patterson – “It has been a privilege serving as a CBO representative on the Westlake North Neighborhood Council. I hope to continue serving on the board in the neighborhood I’ve lived and worked in for years. Westlake was my first home in Los Angeles; from playing basketball at Lafayette Park to grabbing a late lunch at Momma’s Hot Tamales, Westlake has always offered a rich experience that I hope to help preserve through my involvement on the WNNC. There are numerous challenges facing Westlake–from community-police relations to affordable housing, I’m confident I can help the council navigate these challenges. As a recent graduate of UCLA’s Urban Planning Program, I will continue to be an asset to the board when the community is faced with the loss of much needed affordable housing. As a former after school youth leader, I am dedicated to advocating for enhanced after school programs that keep kids off the streets.

Miguel Segura – Born and raised in Westlake North, attended the local public schools in the area (Union Avenue Elementary, Virgil Middle School and Belmont Senior High). For this reason is why Miguel Segura is running for the Westlake North neighborhood council. He is from the community and wants to be part of shaping his community.Miguel wants to be the voice of the many people living in the area that can’t or wont speak for themselves. The neighborhood has indeed improved as seen in his eyes but there is much needed work to be done.Miguel Segura obtained his B.A in 2009 from (California State University, Northridge) and Masters in 2012 from (Loyola Marymount University). Currently, in his fourth year teaching in South Los Angeles, clearly demonstrates that Miguel cares about helping others. Miguel has various life experiences, which makes him the perfect candidate for the position.Spread the word and Vote!
