The 2018 Civic Youth Leadership Academy kicked off this past Monday, 6/18 in City Hall. With 45 youth participants, 80% of which are female, our students this cohort represent every region of the City. The first session included a tour of City Hall, an overview of City Government, and an introduction to Neighborhood Councils. A few students even joined the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners Meeting later that afternoon. Next Monday, the students will be touring El Pueblo and learning about the rich history of the City of Los Angeles.
Now in its third year, the Civic Youth Leadership Academy is a summer program hosted by the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment to engage and empower youth in local government. The six-session course will run through August of this year. Check out www.empowerla.org/civicyouth to learn more and reach out to civicyouth@empowerla.org with any questions.
