On Thursday, June 22, 2017, the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Planning Association held their annual awards gala and announced the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC) the winner in the Neighborhood Planning category for DLANC’s incredible Vision Downtown.

Here is an except from the speech of City Planner Bryan Eck, who presented the award to DLANC:

“Vision Downtown is, a precedent-setting plan authored by the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC). For the first time in Los Angeles, a Neighborhood Council proactively sought grant funding to conduct a professional planning study, completed it successfully, and ultimately adopted a thoughtful and inclusive vision of its own future.  A win for Vision Downtown – and the increased visibility of DLANC’s effort – shines a light on the ability, and absolute need, of this vast city’s Neighborhood Councils to thoughtfully map their own future. The Los Angeles Department of City Planning certainly welcomes the support this would provide in fulfilling its own mission. It is also important to note that DLANC had a pragmatic implementation strategy from the start. It timed the study’s completion to precede and anticipate updates to the City’s two downtown community plans. DLANC’s approach has played out as expected. The community plans are being currently updated and Vision Downtown has provided valuable guidance and direction to the ongoing planning effort.  Vision Downtown has helped inform the ongoing updates of the Central City and Central City North Community Plan updates in downtown Los Angeles.”

Congratulations to DLANC for their much deserved recognition!
