Andrea Canty – Dear Neighbors and Friends,
I would be honored to be re-elected as President of the NANDC. I served one term as president and one term as the education representative. As president, our board has gone through a restructuring period and we are almost at a place where I feel we can me most effective. It takes a while to get seats filled and everyone thinking about a common mission and vision for our community. I believe we now have that and would hope that I am given 2 more years to complete some projects that weĆ¢??ve started such as the Jefferson Blvd. beautification project, communicating and supporting programs in our local schools and parks, and improving our outreach with our neighborhood councils. Thank you for your consideration and your vote. |

Carla Hawkins – I have resided in Los Angeles over fifty years. Also, I have been employed by the City of Los Angeles nearly thirty-four years, and I have a master degree in publice administration. My vested interest to assist in maintaining the integrity of the diversed communites through neighborhood empowerment is genuinely grass-rooted. |

During my years of service I have led various projects, including our annual holiday activities, and the Annual Spring into Health Festival, made possible by our partnership with Charles Drew University, and Martin Luther King Jr. Park. It is my goal for the following term to continue to ensure that this community is well represented at city budget meetings where critical decisions are made. As Vice-President of NANDC, I will also continue to work with residents, local organizations, and businesses to ensure that we benefit from the changes in our community and that they focus on an environment that promotes healthy lifestyles for youth and families. Edward North-Hager – I encourage all of my neighbors to find partners to help them create the community they want to call home. The Neighborhood Council can help.During my years volunteering to represent our community’s interest on the board, we have supported a celebration of Dia de los Muertos as it became a tradition and we created the now annual Spring in Health Festival. As a board, we decided to leverage the funds that the city gave us to support recurring and proven programs created by community members.Scholarships to science camps. Water polo uniforms. Block club get-togethers. Civic-minded language classes. We even were part of a deal to get a few more trees out of the Space Shuttle’s mission through our neighborhood. Far out.We didn’t do it alone. Really I played only a small role. But these items all came before your Neighborhood Council. Hope to see you there. |

Brett Shears – My primary goal as an at-large representative of the NANDC will be to articulate to the community the mission of the Neighborhood Councils. Lack of awareness is a major problem amongst NANDC constituents and Neighborhood Councils in general. Most community members don’t know that each Council has $37,000 at their disposal every year to spend on community development projects. If you have ideas for how we should use this money to help the community, I want to hear them. Please email me at BrettShears2020@gmail.com to talk further.I thank you sincerely for being an involved member of the community and for taking time out of your schedule to vote in this election. |
