Misty Wilks – Everyone that knows me, knows that Los Angeles – Leimert Prk & the surrounding areas – are my heart & soul. I went to Audubon & the place fka Dublin, met boys at the places fka Santa Barbara Plaza & the Crenshaw Swapmeet. Walked thru the place fka the Jungle going to Baldwin Hills Theater. I remember the gunshots off Crenshaw that led the media to decide that I lived in “South Central”. I stayed out all night photographing their stores burning in my neighborhood.
Wherever I go, my heart brings me back. I’ve been a community/social justice activist for 2 1/2 decades. ECWA provides an outlet for my energy & passion. I’ve given so much of myself to others & want to focus on the place that shaped me. It is my hope to help keep the “community informed, engaged and empowered” and make ECWANDC the best NDC! Ready?
