Voting in the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council election is open to everyone 16 years of age or older on the Election Day who is a stakeholder in the area. A “stakeholder” is someone who lives, works, owns property, or has an ongoing and significant participation within the council boundaries. To vote, you must register at the polls before casting your ballot. Everyone must register, even if you are already registered for national elections or have voted in a Neighborhood Council election in the past.
Election Day is Thursday April 7th. Before voting, you must give your name to the Registration Desk. You’ll also need to explain what makes you a Van Nuys stakeholder, and state a “qualifying address,” which is an address lying within the council boundaries that is associated with your stakeholder status. For many voters, your qualifying address will be where you live, work, or own property or a business. If you do none of those things within the council area, your qualifying address could be the place where you routinely attend school or church, or regularly participate in some other community-based activity. Please note that a PO box is *not* acceptable as a qualifying address.
