I stand for transparent governance, and against special interests. Because the greatest threat to democracy is an uninformed populace, I would like the Neighborhood Council to publish a newsletter. I will strive to work for the interests of the 99%.

Jeffrey Klein

My name is Jeff Klein.  I am running for position of Board Member for the Elysian Valley Riverside Neighborhood Council.  I have been serving as a Board Member since the beginning of the year, having joined as a result of a vacancy on the Board.

I am also fairly new to the neighborhood.  In the short time I have been active on the Neighborhood Council, I have been excited and motivated by what I’ve seen.  From walking door-to-door and attending a variety of events, I know this community is an amazingly diverse community – not just culturally, but also as a result of a great mixture of the LA River, the environment, and the arts.  Not to mention the large numbers of wonderful pet owners!

I look forward to being an active member of the community and working with neighbors and stakeholders to improve it; making it one of the most beautiful in Los Angeles.  I hope I can count on the support of the people of Elysian Valley to allow me to continue working at continually moving our neighborhood forward.

Glenda Ochoa

I’m here to represent another term my neighborhood, in which my family & I grew up in. I have so much dedication & ideas to help improve Elysian Valley and bring services we need and beautify our streets.

Samuel Kaplan

I will help out if you need me.

Astrid Diehl

Steven Appleton

We all know this is the best neighborhood in the City but sometimes Elysian Valley gets the short end of the stick: polluting freeways, train yards, poor utilities and broken streets. I joined our Neighborhood Council to improve our quality of life and to better know my neighbors.

Right now is a critical time. Big changes are coming with the LA River, parkland, and High Speed Rail. If elected as a board member I will serve first and foremost by listening to you. I will use my skills to assure our voice is respected by government. I will work to draw out the talents, ideas and skill of our amazing and creative community. I look forward to greeting you with a shovel in hand as we start a series of neighborhood improvement projects that will involve local youth.

I have lived in Elysian Valley for nearly 3 years and have become very fond of area and its diverse residents. I care about numerous issues regarding this growing and ever changing neighborhood that is very unique and I would like to be part of the discussions and decisions being made for its residents so that it may be a cleaner a safer place to live for all . Issues I would like to involve myself with are: New street lighting, graffiti abatement, litter abatement, issues regarding Metrolink Central Maintenance Facility’s air and noise pollution, the art community advancements, issues regarding the LA River Revitalization efforts such such as, land development, land encroachment, river trail street signage, the California High Speed Rail.

Robert Berg

I am asking to be a member of the Elysian Valley Neighborhood Council because I think I can make a contribution in continuing to improve our neighborhood.  I was born on Newell Street in 1994, attending all the local schools: Allesandro, Washington Irving and Marshall High.

In the years that followed graduating from Marshall in 1962, I attended California State University, Los Angeles and the University of Southern California (USC) obtaining a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA). I worked as a Police Officer in the City of Costa Mesa, Emergency Services Coordinator for the City of Anaheim and most recently retired as the Manager of Security and Emergency Preparedness for the City of Long Beach Water Department.  I have 42 years of Public Sector experience.  I served as a Commissioned Officer in the California Army National Guard for 23 years, retiring as a Major.  I am a past Adjunct Professor at the Cal State University, Long Beach.

Jamie Colato

I have lived in the community for many years.  Many of my family members own property here even my mother.  I fell in love with the place since a child just living a block away from the Rec Center.  I attended elementary and high school around here.  During my high school, I volunteered at our local community center and taking part in many neighborhood meetings.  My interest in being board member is to bring the issues of the people to the city.  I want this community to grow and be heard in the process.

Allen Anderson

Maria Garavito

Hello,

My name is Maria Mercedes Garavito but everyone knows me by Mercedes. I have lived in the community for more than 10 years. I attended school here and helped open a community center during my high school years. As part of a board member, I want to transfer my community into a thriving loving place. I want to demonstrate that we are not quiet community.
