I hope our newsletter finds you well. The Congress of Neighborhoods is only a week away.  Check out this very cool Congress video invite.

If you’ve not been to the Congress before, please make sure you attend this day of Neighborhood Council awesomeness!

This week, I was happy to attend the launch of the LA Business Portal. Thanks to Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Innovation Team, the Office of Finance and our Information Technology Agency, this open source resource portal for LA businesses was made possible with a grant from the Small Business Administration.  More information below. It’s pretty neat so check it out.

City Council approved Mayor Garcetti’s new appointments to the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners today. Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council board member Eve Sinclair is the new North Valley area representative, and Margarita (Maggie) Darett-Quiroz, one of the founding members of Glassell Park Neighborhood Council, is the new East area representative.

I was happy to see Sylmar Neighborhood Council board member, Ann Job, sitting at the table before the Rules, Elections, Intergovernmental Relations and Neighborhoods Committee this morning to present SNC’s Community Impact Statement on the Commission appointments per the new City Council policy that gives Neighborhood Councils that have filed CISs a seat at the discussion table when the City Council and Commissions take up a Council File.

The Committee also approved the Neighborhood Council subdivision policy (CF 12-1681) and CF 15-1138-S11 which will involve Neighborhood Councils to work on homelessness matters.

Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates and the Neighborhood Council Emergency Preparedness Alliance meet tomorrow. Reminder that the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners meeting for Monday is cancelled. Have a wonderful weekend!
