Tom Capps – Candidate Statement Residential Representative Area TwoI’m a life time resident of the City of Los Angeles and a 27 year resident of Sherman Oaks.I served as the Area Two Residential Representative from 2009 – 2011. I reluctantly resigned my seat for a family medical emergency in 2011.As a board member of SONC, I worked on the Land Use Subcommittee regarding the Fashion Square Expansion by the Westfield Company, chaired the Outreach Committee and Neighborhood Services Committee and served on the Finance Committee.I believe in the protection of our unique residential communities and an intelligent approach to future development. SONC is an important organization that advises our City Councilperson and other elected city official in land use decisions and many other areas.

Sherry Revord – Having served on the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council for four years, I have learned so much about the potential of grassroots governance, the need for citizen involvement in city decisions and the rewards of serving my community that I’m hooked. I hope you will re-elect me to the SONC Board as the Residential representative for Area 4.
Lisa Petrus – I have lived in Sherman Oaks for 16 years and I would like to help my community by being more involved.

Jill Banks Barad – I have lived in Sherman Oaks for 40 years and am committed to making Sherman Oaks the most livable community for residents and businesses. I am currently the president of SONC and I am proud of our accomplishments to make our Council one of the most honored and well-known in the City. I have worked to bring street and beautification improvements to Sherman Oaks and to make our neighborhoods safe. I organized the Valley’s neighborhood councils so that Neighborhood Councils would have a more effective voice, not only in the Valley, but in Los Angeles. I would like to continue serving on the Council and working for the people of Sherman Oaks. I hope I will have your vote!

Daniel C. Crisci – I have lived and worked in Sherman Oaks for most of the past 15 years. I am currently a real estate broker and have sold, leased or financed many homes in Sherman Oaks. I am a veteran of the CA Army National Guard serving 8 years in the military. I am married to a Registered Nurse and have 3 children. I am looking forward to the opportunity to participant in public service for the community I both work and live in.

Linda Brooks – I have been a resident and community service volunteer in Area 4 for almost 30 years. I grew up in the SFV and hold a B.S. and M.S. from CSUN in Consumer Studies. I have owned my own business here for 18 years.I have served on the Sherman Oaks Galleria Community Advisory Committee and have worked with Public Works, LADOT and the City Attorney’s Office to successfully resolve issues that have impacted Area 4. I am also a member of the VNLAPD Community-Police Advisory Board.It has been both a pleasure and an honor to represent SONC stakeholders while serving on the Finance and Business & Economic Development Committees. My goals for the future are to continue working to protect and improve the quality of life we enjoy in Sherman Oaks, and I look forward to working collaboratively with other members of our community to do so.
Sue Steinberg – I am excited about the prospect of expanding my work for the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council. I was appointed to the Land Use Committee last year, and have enjoyed using my background in real estate development to make important decisions on community improvements.My husband and I have lived in Sherman Oaks for more than 20 years, first on Norwich and now on Burnet. Our two sons attend local public schools, and have participated in AYSO, Sherman Oaks Little League, and sports at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Park.I have worked in real estate development for more than a decade. As a land use consultant, I represent developers, property owners and homeowners in their interaction with city governments in Los Angeles and Santa Monica. I look forward to using my land use experience to direct the future growth of Sherman Oaks by improving our commercial areas while protecting our unique neighborhoods.

Ron Ziff – Sherman Oaks is a beautiful and wonderful community. I want to keep it that way. I have served as a Board Member, Land Use Chair, and 1st Vice President of the Neighborhood Council. I would like to continue serving this community for the next four years.
David Bustan – My name is David Bustan. I am 70 years old and have been a resident of the San Fernando Valley for the last 36 years.
I have been graduated in 1975 from California State University Northridge with BS in Business Administration – majoring in Accounting and Finance.
Currently I am holding licenses in the State of California as a Real Estate Broker, Insurance Broker, General, Engineering, Electrical and Plumbing Contractor, and practiced public accounting for many years.
My wife (who is a RN) and I, are running a Home Health Agency accredited by Medicare and Medical Licensed by the State of California for the last 19 year. Our office located in the City of Van Nuys, but we are planned to move to our recent purchased location in Sherman Oaks.
Although a senior, I feel young and able to contribute of my vest knowledge to our community.

Max Calne – I have served on the SONC Board for the past four years and have greatly enjoyed the opportunity to serve the community on matters large and small. I have participated in many issues and have served as a member of the the Public Safety Committee and the Education Committee. If elected, I will ontinue to serve Sherman Oaks with the energy and dedication that the community has come to expect from SONC.
Cindy Wu Freedman – Hello, my name is Cindy Wu Freedman and I am running for Sherman Oaks NC. I am a native to Sherman Oaks and the San Fernando Valley. I value the importance of community-based involvement and believe in utilizing our local citizens to assist in building community and the growth of Sherman Oaks. I love Sherman Oaks. I have held various board positions within community based organizations. Previously, I served as the President of a non-profit organization based in the valley. I have experience serving on The Neighborhood Council in the position of Budget Representative (Mayor’s Budget). I am a graduate of USC and UCLA in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. I will employ my vast business skills and entrepreneurial training to support the mission of the Sherman Oaks NC. I am dedicated to the success of the board.I am a past business consultant and currently practicing as a real estate advisor.

Amy Turnbull – I have worked at Sherman Oaks Elementary Charter school for eight years. I have been a resident of Sherman Oaks and the vicinity for twenty-five years. I am familiar with the area and have watched it grow and struggle in the face of challenge. Concerned with the impact of development on this community, I returned to CSUN, in the field of urban studies. With a formal education in planning, I want to bring those theories that I have learned in the classroom, along with leadership skills that I learned as president of my university student group, to Area 6. I will also bring experience in field work and community outreach through an AmeriCorps internship where I trained and directed volunteers for a community impact measurement project with a national non-profit company. I will bring these skills, and my naturally outgoing and friendly nature, to represent the community of Area 6.
Rachel Tash – Rachel Tash
For the past few years I have been actively involved in the safety and wellbeing of our neighborhood. I’ve worked closely with the residents and our Council member LaBonge to implement safety measures in our community.This past year I successfully got approval for a stop sign to be installed at the intersection of Van Nuys & Valley Vista Blvd., along with a crosswalk at the intersection and the channeling of the roadway on Valley Vista for pedestrians to walk.As a working woman and mother of a young son, I will strive to help improve our community by listening to the concerns and problems within our neighborhood. I greatly care about the safety and wellbeing of our community and I’d like to make this organization more responsive to the residents of Sherman Oaks.
Currently I serve on the S.O. Public Safety Committee.I would appreciate your vote.
