Harberth J. Godinez – Greetings, I am very honored to be running for the position of Chairperson. My name is Harberth Godinez and I have been a community leader for many years now. I am a college student with a major of Political Science and Organizer of the Association of Higher Education for Active Dreamers. I have worked under the mentorship of Council Member Gil Cedillo, and former Los Angeles Mayor candidate Emanuel Pleitez. I was also awarded the Young Leader of the Year 2013 by the Los Angeles Times and Hoy Newspaper for my work with underrepresented communities and the youth. If elected I will do my best effort to make our neighborhood council an efficient set of individuals working for out community. Please help me making this community one that offers a brighter future for our children and families.

As current Treasurer of Voices NC, we have funded many non-profits and community events. As future Treasurer of Voices, I plan to continue funding good thing within our community while making it a safer place for us all.

Derek James Ochi – I teach and coach baseball at Manual Arts High School. At Manual, our students are empowered through their involvement with non-profit organizations on campus, something that needs to be expanded throughout the community. I believe schools should be an extension of the community and will accomplish this by facilitating increased student involvement with non-profit organizations and in neighborhood council meetings.

Alyssa Tison – I grew up in South Central Los Angeles, on 57th and Figueroa. I went to John Muir Middle School, the place where I realized the injustices in our education system, especially in our communities. I remember sitting in classrooms where teachers would not teach. I was one of the few who was able to “escape” and “make it”. However, I truly believe that education is not a privilege; it is a right. It is because of my experiences that pushed me to become an educator. My experiences led me to come back to my community, teach here and become more involved in understanding what I can do to create change, especially in the education of our youth. This is why I am running for the Education Representative position. I want to broaden my involvement in Education and use the skills that I have attained to deepen progress in our community.
