CANDIDATES FILED:
Bob Brostoff – I have been a member of the West Hills Neighborhood Council Board for four years. I serve as the WHNC’s comtroller, as co-chair of three committees and as a member of three other committees. I have lived in West Hills for more than 17 years. I am married and have four daughters. My goals for the next four years are to increase support for our schools and to promote emergency preparedness and beautification of our streets and sidewalks. In addition, I advocate constraining large housing and commercial developments and controlling the proliferation of cell towers. I intend to continue my involvement with our successful Spring Eggstravaganza/Health and Safety Fair. After working for the LAUSD for 34 years as a teacher and administrator and in private industry for 16 years, I am now retired. In addition, I am a founder and block captain of the West Hills North Neighborhood Watch.

Bonnie Klea – I am a 4-year incumbant of the West Hills Neighborhood Council and co-chair of the Environment Committee. Twenty years ago I became interested in the left-over aerospace contamination in West Hills as a result of a personal cancer diagnosis. There has been an ongoing cleanup of the old Hughes/Ratheon property as well as continuing monitoring of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory radiological and chemical cleanup. The Dayton Canyon housing development has been stalled while an environmental assessment has been done. West Hills needs my expertise to continue monitoring the ongoing chemical and radiological contamination endangering our community.

Steve Randall – I am a current member of the Board of Directors of the WHNC. I’m a very active member, currently serving on the Environment, Zoning & Planning, Streets & Transportation, Beautification, Budget, Public Health, and Emergency Preparedness Committees. Some of the issues I am working on involve the clean up of the contaminated Santa Susana Field Laboratory, limiting proposed developments in West Hills to reasonable standards, creating a West Hills Community/Senior Center, street repair/maintenance, and developing an emergency preparedness program.

I’m a CSUN graduate in Business/Finance. I also studied law, have been a banker, retail store owner, corporate director of marketing, and CFO!

I’m working to make West Hills as vibrant, successful, safe and enjoyable as possible, by voting in accordance with its resident’s wishes! I’ve lived in West Hills for 17 years and own my home here. I NEED YOUR VOTE TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON YOUR BEHALF FOR THE BETTERMENT OF WEST HILLS!

Alec Uzemeck – I have been on the WHNC for four years. I am on the Planning Committee and I am co chair on both the Budget and Environment Committees. I am the Chair of the SSFL Community Advisory Group for DTSC. I am a retired engineer and I want to continue to protect the environment and serve the West Hills community.

Nicole Flessati – I both love and believe in community action and service. I have a deep running desire to help the community in which I live – the community that I was born and raised in. As a native of West Hills, it is an honor to get the chance to be of service to this community, helping to better the neighborhood where needed and preserve the quality of life that has brought people here for generations. I want to deepen the sense of community between the stakeholders, residents, business owners and engender a feeling of belonging and responsibility to the community at large.
Mark Elliott Saltzman – For more than 20 years, I have served the community, with pleasure. Here are some examples:1. Mayor Riordan’s Voluntary Neighborhood Oversight Committee, allocating financial resources to the West Valley parks and roads;
2. Owner of a full service law firm, in the West Valley, since 1997;
3. Judge Pro Tem, Los Angeles Superior Court, 16 years;
4. Central Committee Member, 45th Assembly District;
5. Precinct Captain in presidential elections;
6. Coach, West Hills Baseball.The West Valley is a beautiful place to live, rear children, and work. My experience with the legal system and local organizations can work to keep our community clean, safe, and prosperous.
Dan Brin In 2012, I was elected president of the West Hills Neighborhood Council with the main task of healing some rifts among our Board of Directors. I also set about making all of our stakeholders feel welcome.We have succeeded at both tasks. Our board gets along, our stakeholders are engaged and our meetings end on time!We’ve raised awareness of our Neighborhood Council with new street banners and bus benches (which I helped design), our improved website, our unofficial Facebook page and our weekly calendar (which I compose).I’ve brought West Hills musicians to WHNC events, organized tours of historic sites, advocated building a community center, opposed high-density housing projects and proposed a 5K/10K race on Memorial Day weekend.This just scratches the surface of my efforts to promote pride in our community.Thank you for giving me the honor of helping to point West Hills’ way to the future.
Bobbi Trantafello – I have been a resident of West Hills for 43 years and would like to continue representing the interests of this community by being re-elected to the Board of Directors of the West Hills Neighborhood Council. It is an honor to serve.
Alan R. Jacobs – I have lived and resided in West Hills for 15 years, and I love this community. I am interested in creating a vibrant environment for my children and my family, and for others that are fortunate enough to reside here as well!
Charlene Rothstein – Serving on the WHNC for the past six years has given me the opportunity to act as a Community Liaison between
West Hills stakeholders and City Agencies and Officials. I currently serve as Vice-Pres/Co-Chair of the Council, Co-Chair of Zoning & Planning, Environment Committee member and Chair the Ad Hoc Cell Tower Committee. While I believe in progress and development, I also believe change must be done in compliance with the Community it serves. It has been my pleasure to represent the best interests of the Community of West Hills regarding developments, cell towers and the continuing clean up of SSFL.
I hope those who know me will give me their vote based on my past performance and those who do not know me will give me their vote so I can continue to work for the improvement of the great City of West Hills.
John Hogue – I have been a Board Member of the West Hills Neighborhood Council for over a year now. My main focus in that time has been to inform family, friends, neighbors and other stakeholders of the existence of the WHNC and its different committees. Without the communities input and participation the WHNC cannot operate effectively or in the best interest of its stakeholders.I will continue to inform, listen to, and act on behalf of the members of this great community of West Hills.

I want to work in partnership with our City Council District office to improve city services to our community. I want to help increase awareness about the benefits of having a neighborhood council be the eyes and ears of the community.
Aida Abkarians – My name is Aida Abkarians, and I have been a proud resident of West Hills for over 30 years. I am a wife, a mother, and a two-time cancer survivor. And for the past two decades, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of teaching art to thousands of children at Pomelo elementary school. Over the years I’ve co-chaired PTA’s for my children and yours, always aspiring to do what I can to improve our community. I’ve pestered hundreds of you to donate toys and gifts to orphans and other children in troubled environments through Child Help USA for nearly 3 decades (and win or lose, I’ll keep doing so). I ask for your support-for the honor to serve you-because I care about this community, about our children, and about our collective future.
Margery Brown – As a juvenile Deputy Probation Officer and Red Cross Disaster volunteer, I have very been active in the San Fernando Valley for over 45 years and have also spent the last 7 years on the West Hills Council Environment Committee, and on the West Hills Neighborhood Council board since the fall of 2012, where I have also been a member of the Zoning and Planning, Communication, and Emergency Preparedness committees. I am always very concerned with the health and welfare of West Hills families, the schools and local businesses. As a long time opera singer, I would also like to help bring more cultural events to West Hills. Cleaning up the contamination of the nearby Santa Susana Field Laboratory is of great importance to me,and also making sure that the quality of any new building and city Government is maintained for this lovely residential area of West Hills.
Todd A Marks – As a proud resident of and small business owner in West Hills for over 20 years, my wife and I have raised our children here, both of whom have attended local public schools. I have degrees in Film and Business Administration, and a Marketing Degree from CSUN.In the Entertainment Industry, I am a Computer-Video Playback Supervisor, and am accustomed to keeping things running smoothly in a dynamically complex environment. This includes managing multiple agendas, dealing with strong personalities, tight budgets, impossible deadlines, technical challenges, and maintaing the highest standards. I will bring this same set of skills, focus, and drive to my work on the NC.I believe a strong community is one is comprised of caring, helpful, and well-informed friends and neighbors. I look forward to working creatively with others to solve problems and overcome obstacles, to improve our community by making it the best it can be.
