My name is Nelson A. Castillo. I am the founding president of the Westlake South Neighborhood Council (WSNC) and seek your support in my reelection to continue the community work I’ve been doing during my first year in office.

I am passionate about making our community a better place. I believe in helping others so that together we can all succeed. That’s why I helped establish the WSNC.

Under my leadership, our neighborhood council has awarded $19,900 in grants to local non-profits, such as Centro Latino for Literacy, SALEF, Esperanza Immigrant Rights Program and El Rescate to help their work in our community.

I am a dedicated and experienced immigration attorney who has volunteered with many non-profits, including KIND and CARECEN and has worked tirelessly to help Latino immigrants. You can learn more about me at www.nelsoncastillo.com.

Manuel Olmos has developed cultural activities for many years. He has produced since 2006 the festival “Feria Agostina” at the MacArthur Park. He works as radio and TV independent producer, and publish local newspapers. Furthermore, he is a children’s musician, and writer as well. Finally, provides tutoring, and business consulting services.

My name is Michael Barnes and i am a candidate to serve on the Westlake South Neighborhood Council as Community Based Organization Stakeholder Board Member. Presently, I serve as Manager of the Royal Palms recovery Home for Men. We are a 135-bed facility, located at 360 So. Westlake Avenue. The Royal palms is part of the Mary Lind Foundation, established in 1949 to provide services to Homeless men and women recovering from drugs and alcohol.
The Royal Palm has enthusiastically supported and participated with the westlake South Neighborhood Council for more than a decade. We consider ourselves a part of the family. We take pride in the Community and help out whenever and wherever we can. Since 1995, we have actively participated in Community Clean-ups and services to the Homeless, including: Operation Sparkle, National Night out on Crime. We have been honored to prepare turkeys in our kitchen and provide volunteers for the annual P.I.P Neighborhood Thanksgiving Dinner for the Community.

“Randy” Waller

Raymond “Randy” Waller is the current elected Secretary and Executive Committee member of Westlake’s original Neighborhood Councils. A resident of Westlake for almost 30 years, Randy has considerable knowledge and experience navigating the maze of city government.

Citywide, he serves on the planning committee of the annual Congress of Neighborhoods, as well as being an active member of the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Coalition. He advocates teamwork to keep the Westlake councils moving in a positive direction, and supports every effort to increase community empowerment. It’s been an honor serving you as treasurer & board member in the first year of existence for the Westlake South Neighborhood Council. I’ve met a lot of new friends, attended and supported numerous community events. Here’s a partial listing of what the board and I have supported.

Approved Neighborhood Purpose Grants & funding for Centro Latino for literacy, El Rescate, Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project(Catholic Charities), Salvadoran American Leadership Educational Fund, Salvation Army Youth Center, Los Angeles Police Rampart National Night Out, Friends of the Levitt Pavilion-MacArthur Park and Central American Independence Parade.
