Next Tuesday, April 24, the Board of the Los Angeles Animal Services Commissioners will hold its meeting in Van Nuys. On behalf of Commissioners Olivia Garcia, Roger Wolfson, Alisa Finsten, Layne Dicker and myself, Larry Gross, the Board of the Los Angeles Animal Services Commissioners would like to extend an invitation to attend their meeting at 7:00 PM at the East Valley Animal Shelter, 14409 Vanowen Street, Van Nuys, CA 91405 (between Van Nuys and Hazeltine).

Community members are encouraged to attend the meeting and make their concerns regarding animal issues in the City of Los Angeles known directly to officials of the Animal Services Department.

Prior to the meeting, at 6:15 pm, there will be a tour for the public of the East Valley Animal Shelter facility.

The public will be able to make general comments on any subject matter that the Board has jurisdiction on during the public comment period.

The meeting agenda will include a Bottle Baby Presentation, a Request for Authority to Continue to Sponsor and Host Bound Angels University, Request to Use Funds from the Animal Welfare Trust Fund for Staff Registration for the 2018 Best Friends National Conference, financial report for the Animal Welfare Trust Fund for February 2018 and the Woof Stat Report for March 2018.

The Department of Animal Services is making significant strides in ensuring the protection and safety of our animals. Tremendous progress has been made to establish LA as a “No Kill” city. Euthanasia rates have dropped dramatically. While the Department of Animal Services is making progress on many other fronts, more is needed to increase adoptions and educate the public on why it is crucial to spay or neuter. We need your help and support on these issues.

The agenda and other material for this meeting can be found Friday, April 20 on the Department’s website at http://www.laanimalservices.com/about-us-2/commission/.

Attached is a bilingual (English/Spanish) leaflet announcing the Commission meeting and the meeting agenda. Help spread the word by distributing the leaflet to neighbors, friends, Neighborhood Council members and other parties of interest.

Spanish language and sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices, or other auxiliary aids and/or services may be provided upon request. To ensure availability, you are advised to make your request prior to the meeting. For information please call (213) 482-9558.
