Viann & I at Cording Ceremony (2)Joyce L Garber – My name is Joyce Garber and although I have only been here a short time I have already helped to keep our neighborhood schools safe and our town protected by voicing my opinion against the clinic proposed for our local business area. I want to be a voice not only in the City of Hermon but for the City of Hermon. I love the community feel of this city and have also fallen in love with its natural beauty and will fight to maintain those assets. As a Public Health Nurse, Technical Lead and Educator in the San Gabriel Valley for the last 21 years I have worked to improve the lives of our children, the elderly, the under served, and our furry companions. I would like to continue to do so as a Representative for the City of Hermon.

Orville_McKinley_Reg8_ASNC_2014Orville A McKinley – The strength of a community is in it’s organization of resources and services. I intend to bring fresh ideas and energy into my Council so that we can be an example for other councils. As a disabled citizen I desire to give back to this city that has given me so much.
Roy Payan – I have lived in Montecito Heights for 23 years and for the last seven I’ve been president of the Montecito Heights Improvement Association. I am currently involved in public safety for our community, a local water reclamation project and most importantly a long term commitment to preserve the open space in Montecito Heights. The area most directly under threat is the land we all love in the vicinity of Flat Top. As MHIA President I led a successful effort to block a bad development adjacent to Debs Park. As a member of ASNC, I will fight to protect our open space and viewshed, building on the relationships with the city officials I have cultivated over the years. I’m a graduate of Lincoln High School and Art Center, served 12 years in the Navy. I’m currently the Montecito Heights Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) lead and have 20 Red Cross
Certifications.

Richard Schwanbeck – My name is Richard Schwanbeck and my wife and I have recently moved into the Monterey Hills area of ASNC. My experience with the Neighborhood Council concept is based on six years of working with the P.I.C.O. NC in the Mid-Wilshire area. Over the past 12 years my volunteer work has included Culver City Little League, Boy Scouts of America – Troop 764 ( Culver City ), Neighbors United ( HOA in West Los Angeles ) and my church – St. James Church in South Pasadena.Community service is very important to me and over the years I have twice received awards for my efforts from the City of Los Angeles. If given the opportunity to serve I pledge to do my best for my neighbors, community and the Arroyo Seco NC.

CANDIDATES FILED:
P1010717Valerie Harragin – My name is Valerie Harragin. I have lived in Mt. Washington for over 20 years. My daughter, now grown up, attended Mt. Washington Elementary school.Over the past year, we have funded murals at Mt Washington Elementary, helped sponsor parades and represented our community by weighing in on the restoration of the LA River, rangers for Debs Park, and numerous issues that directly affect the quality of our lives here in NELA. Over the next year or so, we will be placing even more emphasis on outreach and will be working on such critical matters as the proposed bike lane on Figueroa, the fate of the overpass at Figueroa and Riverside Drive, and, most importantly, the ideas and concerns you – our neighbors – tell us you care about.I am committed to continue to represent you and ask for your vote.
Tamar Rosenthal R8_ASNCTamar Rosenthal – I feel that citizen involvement is the cornerstone of a healthy democracy. I proudly vote in elections and have made sure that my children understand the obligation to actively voice their views. I have taught them that consensus building whenever possible is the best hope for sustainable change. I have worked with them on political campaigns, volunteered at their schools, and advocated for their rights. I have loved living in Mt. Washington for over 15 years, mesmerized by its natural beauty, its eclectic and incredibly interesting residents, and its embracing of artistic freedom. My children attended Mt. Washington Elementary. With them both in college I want to get involved in planning for the future. My son hopes to move into our home and raise his children here. This Council gives me the opportunity to be an advocate for all of us as well as for my hopefully many, future grandchildren.
Amy Sims – The Arroyo Secco community is rich in natural, cultural and architectural history that I would like to assist in preserving as well as opening new opportunities for prosperity for all
PC14Padraic Cassidy – It’s been a great pleasure and privilege to serve as Chair of the Mt. Washington Local Issues Committee since I filled a vacant seat in October. We’ve accomplished a couple of initiatives with roadwork and signage and are in the midst of exciting work on a DASH-type bus to link our communities together, to the Gold Line, and the larger city. I strongly believe the city is getting better and better, especially with the newly vibrant downtown, and feel our Arroyo’s proximity to this newfound wealth can be channeled to our benefit while preserving the unique qualities which have attracted all of us to our gem-like communities. I’ve lived near the Lummis House for the past 21 years and have just completed a house for my family up on the Hill and am very happy here, and happy to volunteer to make it even better. I greatly appreciate your support.
Robert RiveraRobert Rivera – I am a mortgage broker/real estate broker that has lived in the Mt. Washington area most of my adult life. My wish to keep our neighborhood safe and pleasant area for families to live and play is the reason I am throwing my hat into the ring.
Eric_William_Pierson_Arroyo_SecoEric William Pierson – I’ve lived in Mount Washington for eight years. In that time I’ve seen it change at a rapid rate. I moved here and in with my native Angelino wife after relocating from New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina. I’m running to join the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council and represent Mount Washington. I love this neighborhood, the whole North East Los Angeles quadrant and I want to make sure that it maintains the aspects of it that attract me the most; family oriented, neighborly oasis away from the rest of the congestion of the city.

My biggest concerns are the rate of growth, the population density occurring, the traffic congestion and maintaining its multi cultural diversity. My wife and I walk these streets, we bike these streets and we drive these streets. I want to do what I can to help keep them safe, accessible, and inclusive for the whole community.
