I have strong familial ties to the local Fire Station and will fight against further reductions in service or staffing. As a member of this Neighborhood Council, I will continue to oppose unnecessary rate increases for City services such as those imposed by the Sanitation Department and the DWP. As a parent of four children currently attending the local Middle School and High School, I will continue to advocate for the safety and well being of all of the children in our community.Thank you for your vote today.”
Zella Knight – As a parent advocate and Sun Valley Resident, Zella Knight has supported efforts to engage families for over twenty years. I have participated and partnered with varied community and education organizations in the North East Valley. I have liaised between stakeholders and regulatory agencies in the development of parent involvement programs and advised on policies to support at-risk students and families. I have been formally recognized by the California Department of Education, Federal, State and local representatives and LAUSD Board of Education for my contribution to at risk children and families. I welcome the opportunity to be one of the voices of the community to build strength and capacity for the residents of Sun Valley.
James Eric Freedner – I was formerly a member of SVANC on its first Board of Directors, and look forward to serving the community again. I also served for 7 years as Secretary of the North Hollywood North East NC, as well as being active in the Neighborhood Watch program.
Elizabeth Bille – I am a Sun Valley resident who wishes to make a difference in the community and be the voice of our residents in the Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council. I have experience in advocacy and civic engagement and I will bring this experience to the Neighborhood Council. If elected, I will advocate tirelessly on behalf of our community. My goal is to make Sun Valley a safe and beautiful place to live.
Debbie Lyn Boyd
Samuel Daniel Palomino – I work for my community, bring my 15 years of experience in the Army, to prevent and combat gangs, the illegal sale of drugs.Form a group of Neighborhood rounds of together with the police sector, to provide security for our family, our only property and is a city free from bad elements.
Wendy G Thum – There is so much potential for Sun Valley, which I feel is at an important crossroads. We can become a community that embraces our natural beauty and encourages our young people to become fully educated then fully employed. I would like to invite businesses to bring jobs and job creation here, to meet with the schools on behalf of hard-working students and see how we can bring economic advancement to everyone, for the near future and the long term as well. Gaining respect as a community also means keeping our community clean and safe. We need to work together, but we also need to be creative together. I pledge to listen to you, and do all I can for education, jobs and our environment. Thank you, and let’s make Sun Valley a shining gem.
Sean Inkelaar-Cruz – I’m seeking appointment on the Sun Valley Neighborhood Council as a Residential Stakeholder. I have lived in this community for 15 years. I’m a graduate of the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, planning, and Development. I am currently finishing my Master’s Degree in Urban Planning with a concentration in Sustainable Land Use Planning. I have 5 years experience in the financial sector as a Personal Banker at Bank of America. Additionally, I bring over 11 years of management experience from the United States Army and California Army National Guard as a Non-commissioned officer and commissioned officer. I look forward to joining a team that seeks to improve our community. We need to work together to revitalize the Sun Valley Community and bridge the gap between some of our neighboring communities that currently serve as our economic centers.
Eric Castellanos
Lysander Cuevas – I’m seeking an appointment as a neighborhood council for Sun Valley. My family and I have lived in this community for over 40 years. My reason for running is to make SV a better place to live in, to assist and communicate the needs of the community, and to hold city government accountable for the lack of service or inactions that have allowed the degeneration of our neighborhood. In the last 40 years our community has not progressed like our neighboring cities of Burbank and Glendale. Lack of oversight and voice has destroyed our quality of life. Sun Valley has been a magnet for businesses that no other communities want in their back yard. On the East side of our community we’ve lost our only grocery store Ralphs only to have it replaced withnew marijuana dispensaries and recycling centers.I’m a graduate of CSULA with a major in Industrial Technology.
David B. Lanear – Hi, I’m Dave. This election is exciting to me. It would be an honor to represent the residents of Sun Valley. I will do my best to support the initiatives and improvements that best reflect what our community needs. I believe we have a great opportunity to improve our quality of life. As far as experience: I have served on committees. I have performed volunteerism. And I have focused on results. Please allow me the chance to make a difference in our community. Thank you!

CANDIDATES FILED:
Sam Khalaf
Salvador A. Najarro – I’ve been working the Sun Valley Neighborhood as a realtor, for the past 14 years and I like to know what goes on in the neighborhood, so I can inform the residents about the things that affect them and their neighborhood, besides, I thing this is one way I can give something back to the people I work with.
Mark B. Allen
Maurice Vanegas – I have lived in the North San Fernando Valley since 1992 and worked since 1993. I have seen many changes for the good, no changes at all when there should have been some, and changes that have been detrimental to the development of our community. The biggest change I have seen over the years is the disappearance of the small retail owner outlet. I am a graduate of UCLA with an engineering degree running a number of companies that include bus transportation, production of content, advertising, technology, fuel production, and am a big supporter of technology. However, the unfair competition that internet sites have against the local business owner is abusive and have caused many businesses to close down giving our neighborhoods many vacant retail sites and something has to be done about it. It is my hope that I can make a difference in this respect.
Daniel Salazar
At-Large Stakeholder Directors
Term: 4 years
4 Elected Community Stakeholder who is 18 years of age or older who participates in an organization or group within the SVANC boundaries, including but not limited to community-based, faith- based or educational, which is not already identified in the stakeholder groups listed above. CANDIDATES FILED:
Mylo J Koenig – I am a 17 year Sun Valley resident and longtime volunteer for the Los Angeles Public Library, more recently with Friends of the Sun Valley Library. I am not a political person. Anybody can have good ideas. Sound reasoning is the basis of all good decision making. Above all, we need to live within our means. I have attended all SVANC monthly meetings since June 2012. Later, I volunteered to assist the council with computer, technological, and office functions. Since my August board appointment, I have been an active member of the Bylaws, Election and Finance committees. Aside from the honor of serving my community, I have met many amazing people while learning the inner workings of our city. My background is in computer and telecommunications technology support/ maintenance, plus Human Resources and office experience. I refurbish antique telephones in my spare time. Thank you for your consideration.
Mike O’Gara – I have been a community activist in Sun valley for about ten years. I have worked on many Planning issues and outreach for the community. I am on the advisory board for the Sun Valley Parks and Recreation facility
