Jeffry Carpenter – Though I have been in the Greater Wilshire NC area since 1978 (and in Area 2 since 1994), I am a relative newcomer to neighborhood councils. I am just finishing up a first, abbreviated (17 month) term as the Area 2 (“Citrus Square”) representative, having also been serving as the Secretary to the GWNC board, one of the GWNC representatives on Metro’s Purple Line advisory committee, and the GWNC representative to the City’s NC Plan and Reform Initiative regional committee to the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment. Having seen the start of initiatives in improving our area’s street trees and parkways and in addressing the many issues that we have along La Brea between businesses and residents, I am hoping for an opportunity to help see continued progress on these and other important neighborhood issues. |
Lauren Tarne – During the last five years, I’ve lived in the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood. During this short period of time, changes in the neighborhood have been immense. Growth drives this great neighborhood’s economy, but with growth, it’s important to maintain a good quality of life. This is my first foray into a neighborhood council, but as a Realtor people tell me on a daily basis what’s important to them in a neighborhood. With this knowledge and experience along with information residents of GWN have communicated to me, I know have the skills to be an action-oriented representative for my neighbors. |

Barbara Savage – I have lived, worked and owned businesses here in the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood for over 20 years. I have three chilren who attend local public schools. My business interests are matched by my community involvement. I am the newly elected President of the Labrea Hancock Homeowners Association, I currently serve as an Alternate board member for the GWNC. I am also this election’s chairperson. I served as Lead block captain when I lived in Hancock Park. I was also involved in forming the HPOZ for the Hancock Park area. I have also worked for Councilman Tom Labonge as an Assistant Deputy. I am a chemist by trade and my environmental work has lead to recognition in my field as both innovative, sustainable and resourceful. |
Bill Funderburk – Our neighborhood is experiencing rapid demographic change as a result of increased home values, desirability of the surrounding area between Beverly Center, the Grove and Larchmont Village, accompanied by development encroachment–e.g., mansionization, build up in the La Brea and Wilshire corridors and a decade of subway construction and the density pressures that accompany new subways. I am running to continue to advocate for safe and clean streets and traffic mitigation while devising neighborhood based, collaborative, outcome based partnerships with local businesses. Although I lived in the GWNC from 1998 to 2005, I started as a block captain (by default and necessity) in 2010 soon after moving to the 400 block of S. Sycamore with my family. In 2012, I was unanimously elected a GWNC board member and am running for reelection. With your help, we can make our community safer, cleaner and friendlier. |

Greg Wittmann – For the past year and a half, I have served on the GWNC Board and Land Use Committee. I am grateful to be in the company of so many dedicated and professional colleagues who volunteer their time to organize the community and advocate for its best interests. The area I live in is a wonderfully diverse neighborhood with a vibrant street life and a relatively young population excited to live in the middle of the City (myself included!).Unfortunately, the City has failed to take my neighbors’ needs seriously. Lacking a real park, kids skateboard in driveways and ride tricycles in underground garages. While many of my neighbors — of all ages and backgrounds — bicycle, walk or take the bus to get around, our conversations on transportation read like yesterday’s news.If elected, I will advocate for safer streets and crosswalks, convenient transit and improved urban design. |

Jack Humphreville – Neighborhood Councils are a vital component of our City Charter. They allow ordinary citizens the opportunity to understand and influence our City government. NCs were instrumental in the 2009 defeat of Measure B, the Mayor’s Solar Initiative that would have raised our DWP rates by billions of dollars. NCs were instrumental in the 78% of the voters approving the formation of the Ratepayers Advocate in 2011. NCs were instrumental in the 2013 defeat of Proposition A, the permanent half cent increase in our sales tax to a staggering 9½%. NCs are an important forum that allows voters to have a better understanding of the City’s perilous finances. As a Board member and a contributor to CityWatchLA.com, I have informed GWNC stakeholders and all Angelenos about the finances of DWP and the City. I will continue these efforts on your behalf. |

Currently, I serve as the VP of the Windsor Village Association board and as an active member of the Friends of Harold Henry Park Committee. I am, and always have been, a renter. As someone actively engaged in the preservation and improvement of our community, I have too often heard my neighbors say “I’m only a renter” as a reason for believing their status as stakeholders in their neighborhood is diminished. I seek to join the GWNC to give a voice to this significant portion of our population, and to engage and inform them as equal members of our community. |
