California: Election Observer Volunteers Needed Statewide

Elections are the heart of democracy. And while voting is every American’s civic duty, here is one opportunity for Californian’s to go above and beyond in the June 7 Primary. We are supporting the Secretary of State’s office in making sure that this California primary election day is conducted with integrity and efficiency.

How You Can Help

Each Observer must complete:

  • Poll Worker Training in Your County (date/time vary by county poll worker training length and schedule.
  • One hour-long WebEx training with the Secretary of States Office
  • Visit approximately 20-25 polling places on Election Day, June 7 (6:30 am – 11 pm)
  • Submit a Post Election Report (time required is approximately two hours; reports are due 10 days after election)

We know this comprises a significant time commitment, but this work helps ensure that California’s election will be held to the highest standards.

Duties will involve visiting a specified number of identified precincts and completeing checklists, as well as spending time after the polls close at the county election center to observe the ballot tabulating process. The Secretary of State’s office is looking for volunteers with good writing and observation skills, attention to detail, and people skills. You will be playing an observation role, no troubleshooting necessary. Travel and mileage expenses will be reimbursed.
