The Southern California Preparedness Foundation, sponsors of the 9th Annual Valley Disaster Preparedness Fair, is pleased to announce our Speaker Series line-up. Starting at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 1 in the Community Room at Fire Station 87, 10124 Balboa Blvd., Granada Hills, we’ll have a series of five 30-minute talks from five great speakers. The Speaker schedule and flyer will be posted on www.ValleyDisasterFair.com soon.

Louise Masin Sattler
, an advocate for persons with access and functional needs (AFN), will talk about how first responders (that could be you!) can best serve the needs of those with AFN during and post disaster.

Erin Huey
, long-time volunteer Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED instructor-trainer, and recent Gas Company retiree, will help us help ensure our pets are prepared before and safely cared for during and after a disaster.

Staff from MySafe:LA will discuss how seniors (55 and over) can be better prepared in their home for fire and life safety, and disaster situations. Think about grandma in a wheelchair home alone when the earthquake hits, and you’re on vacation on the other side of the world without cell phone coverage.

Brian Tessier, Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council Emergency Preparedness Committee co-chair emeritus, will demonstrate and discuss how to create a personalized backpack preparedness kit on the cheap.

Grayce Liu, our very own General Manager of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (EmpowerLA), will discuss the latest efforts Los Angeles is taking to help prepare its citizens for disaster response through the Neighborhood Council system.
