Krekorian VotingI hope our newsletter finds you well. We are riding the Neighborhood Council election roller coaster now with the start of Region 1 elections last Saturday and Region 3 elections yesterday in the Valley. With Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council coming out of the gate with over 1200 voters showing up at the polls as well as nearly 400 voters in Sylmar Neighborhood Councils testing the online voting waters, it’s been a pretty exciting start. I was happy to see Controller Ron Galperin, Councilmember Paul Krekorian and LAHSA Commissioner Wendy Greuel voting in Neighborhood Council elections yesterday despite the rain. Elections continue in the northwest Valley tomorrow with Region 2 so come out and vote!

ginnyhatfieldI was so pleased to see Neighborhood Council Valley Village Vice President, Ginny Hatfield, named as one of the five “Inspirational Women of the San Fernando Valley” for her amazing work with the Neighborhood Council. You can read more about the award below. Ginny was also a winner of the EmpowerLA Spirit Award a few months ago for empowering folks beyond her own Neighborhood Council with her Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Council Executive Committee work. Congratulations, Ginny!

Some big Neighborhood Council policy updates happened this week. The Board of Neighborhood Commissioners met on Monday and passed their Neighborhood Council Minutes Posting Requirements Policy. In addition, the Rules, Elections, Intergovernmental Relations and Neighborhoods Committee recommended City Council to adopt a Council Policy providing certified Neighborhood Councils an opportunity to speak separate from the public comment process to present Neighborhood Council positions via their Community Impact Statements. Please make sure that your Neighborhood Councils are submitting Community Impact Statements on Council Files so that you can take advantage of this great opportunity to present your community’s position in person as well.

After nearly a year of hard work, it was exciting to see Mayor Eric Garcetti launch of CleanStat, which grades over 22,000 miles of LA’s streets and alleys. Now that we have this fantastic index, it’s time to roll up our sleeves around the City and get to cleaning. For more information on the Clean Streets LA program and how Neighborhood Councils will be a part of the solution, see below.

A reminder that PlanCheckNC is cancelled tomorrow because of the reCode Public Forum in the Harbor. If I don’t see you at the Neighborhood Council elections tomorrow, have a great weekend!
