I hope our newsletter finds you well. A HUGE congratulations and welcome to our 97th Neighborhood Council – Hermon Neighborhood Council! The Board of Neighborhood Commissioners approved the Hermon Neighborhood Council bylaws last night after hearing hours of public comment on their proposed boundaries. The Hermon Neighborhood Council Forming Committee made a delightful presentation on the long history of Hermon with reenactments by Hermon school kids. Hermon will be the smallest Neighborhood Council in the system and was approved as an exception to the 20,000 stakeholder requirement because of their historic area and because of their relative isolation due to geographical boundaries. We’ll be holding a selection process for their interim board next month and look forward to working with our newest Neighborhood Council. Many thanks to the Hermon stakeholders for submitting the application and to our staff, especially Mike Fong, Tom Soong and Stephen Box, for their work in processing the first subdivision Neighborhood Council!

A friendly reminder that the Neighborhood Council Funding Program deadlines are coming up fast. June 1st is the last day to submit a Funding Request Form. June 7th is the last day to issue on online check request, and June 11th is the last day to use the bank card. Please remember, too, to take action on your Strategic Budget Package for next fiscal year in June as the deadline to submit is July 1st.

We welcomed another international delegation from the State Department today. Visitors from Venezuela came to learn about transparency in government from the Neighborhood Council perspective. BIG thanks to staffers Semee Park, Kathleen Quinn and Vanessa Serrano for presenting on our awesome Neighborhood Council system, which of course, impressed the delegation, particularly given the situation in their home country now.

Don’t forget the Neighborhood Council Emergency Preparedness Alliance meets tomorrow and the Congress of Neighborhoods Planning Committee will be meeting on Sunday. Our offices will be closed on Monday, May 29th, in observance of Memorial Day.

Have a wonderful weekend!
