The Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Coalition met on March 7 to discuss the citywide issues of online voting for Neighborhood Council elections, mansionization in Los Angeles, and the recent DWP billing issues.

Despite a motion requested by LANCC to postpone the online voting decision for a month, the Board of Neighborhood Commissioners voted to approve the resolution moving forward with the online voting process for upcoming Neighborhood Council elections. LANCC is in support of empowering stakeholders and encouraging them to get out the vote either conventionally or with new technology. However, they were not satisfied with the process or the lack of answers on security, cost, or implementation of online voting for the next two election cycles, prompting the request for postponement.

Richard Platkin from USC’s School of Policy, Planning, and development gave LANCC important updates on efforts to control mansionization in LA neighborhoods. He addressed the proposed Interim Control Ordinances for 20 neighborhoods and stalled amendments to remove the mansionization loopholes from the BMO.
