Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today that several City of Los Angeles cooling centers will have extended hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, so that Angelenos without access to air conditioning can have a place to escape higher-than-normal temperatures.
The National Weather Service has issued a regional Heat Advisory — a period of hot temperatures that heighten the possibility of heat illnesses — from Tuesday at 11 a.m. to Wednesday at 9 p.m. Tips for staying cool, along with a list of cooling centers, are available at emergency.lacity.org/heat or by calling 311.
“Everyone in Los Angeles should have a place to go for relief from these scorching temperatures — and that can be especially critical for the youngest among us and older Angelenos without air-conditioning,” said Mayor Garcetti. “Our City’s libraries, recreation centers, and senior centers are all a part of L.A.’s network of cooling centers, and they are always available to residents during normal business hours. We’re adding hours at several centers, on the hottest days, so that anyone who needs help can stay cool, healthy, and safe.”
Mayor Garcetti also encouraged Angelenos to do their part to save energy and help avoid electricity shortages. Tips for saving energy are available at www.myladwp.com/saveenergyla.
