THE DEPARTMENT OF NEIGHBORHOOD EMPOWERMENT PRESENTS:

THE NEIGHBORHOOD COUNCILS OF LOS ANGELES:
15 YEARS OF EMPOWERING ANGELENOS

This exhibit has been created in celebration of the hard work the Neighborhood Council board members
have done over the last 15 years.

SUSTAINABILITY

Neighborhood Councils bring LA’s commitment to sustainability to life with clean-ups, tree plantings, education, policy, and land use planning advocacy. Citywide, the Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance brings Councils together and has organized the Cool Blocks LA program to connect neighbors around a commitment to lowering their carbon footprint. Cool Blocks LA is a 5 month, action-based program that only requires a 2-3 hour weekly time investment. To sign up or learn more, go to http://ncsa.nationbuilder.com/cool_blocks_la

Since its establishment in 1999, the Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment has grown into the nation’s largest and most innovative initiative in civic engagement and citizen-based government through the “EmpowerLA” movement. With a network of 97 Neighborhood Councils, Los Angeles promotes public participation in government and works to improve government responsiveness to local concerns. Visit EmpowerLA.org to learn more about how the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment supports Neighborhood Councils and Angelenos citywide.
