Dear L.A. Neighborhood Council Leaders,

As the local leaders of Los Angeles, you are invited to participate and lead your community in
California Clean Air Day on October 3, 2018. Across the state, Californians will take actions to
clear the air as we create more breathable, healthy communities for all.

Though great strides have been made across the state, if each Californian takes just one action,
the collective impact will improve the lives of many people.

And as a local board, you can lead the way.

We encourage your neighborhood council to pass a resolution of support to encourage all of
your community members to take action on Clean Air Day. We will track registrations by ZIP code
and let you know how many people in your ZIP code(s) have participated. Further you can host a
local event on Clean Air Day to get the word out. You can coordinate a tree planting, establish an
idle free zone around a school or park, host a roundtable with businesses, or even recognize
those businesses and organizations working for cleaner air. Also, if you have an environmental
program or event you’re a part of at this time, feel free to utilize that as part of Clean Air Day.

No one knows your community like your board, so we ask that you find a way to take action.
Ideas and plans for these and other actions are at cleanairday.org, and we ask that you register
what your Council is doing at the site so we can promote it.

Above all, please take the pledge to see the various ways individuals can clean the air with simple
actions. If every Neighborhood Council Board member takes the pledge, think of the message
that sends to your community about the value of clean air.

We look forward to highlighting your involvement and success — please take Clean Air Day and
make it your own in your community to improve the quality of life and health in your
neighborhood.

Thank you for your work on behalf of all Californians,
Joseph K. Lyou, PhD

Clean Air Day is about Community

California Clean Air Day is a multifaceted program built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health. This statewide effort will allow individuals and communities across the state to participate in ways that makes sense for them. Choose from the menu of activities to clear the air by taking the Clean Air Pledge to do this on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Clean Air Day is a project of the Coalition for Clean Air.
